Mono Lake

blogmono-lake-1.jpg

Here was the other end of our Tuolumne Meadows, Mono Lake trip. Mono Lake is a very interesting place, both to photograph and learn about. You know all those sea gulls you see when you go to the coast. Well most of them were born at Mono Lake. Even though we couldn’t drink the water, it supports a wide variety of wildlife. It was on the brink of drying up until 1994 when there were laws passed to preserve the lake at it’s 1963 level. It’s risen about half of the 19 or so feet required to reach that goal.

Friedhelms wife, Nancy, is a librarian, if you can, bring a librarian with you when you go on trips, she was a wealth of knowledge. Thanks Nancy!
