Castle Lake
9. August 2009 by David.
While in the Mt. Shasta area I visited an alpine lake named Castle Lake early one morning, even the campers were still snug in their tents. When I first arrived you couldn’t see beyond a few yards because of the mist. After a while the mist began to clear allowing me this shot.
To get as much depth of field as possible I used a tripod and shot at f22 for 1/4 of a second.

Mt. Shasta, two views.
9. August 2009 by David.
Recently I went on a working ‘vacation’ to help my brother with his house. I used to live in Northern California at the southeast side of Mt. Shasta. I never really appreciated the mountain until I moved away for a few years. These photos are of the same mountain, on two different days from two different sides, first from the west and second from the north-east. the tallest peak is Mt. Shasta the smaller ‘volcano’ shaped peak is Shastina. It is currently dormant, but not dead! Yes, the sky really is that blue! And the stars at night, WOW!
It is seldom you see this much snow in August but we received a very good thunderstorm. It wet the surrounding hills and covered the mountain with snow. The first picture is the day after the snowfall as the clouds were clearing. The second is from the north which always has a little snow but you can see most of the dusting it received has already melted away. I was able to sneak away in the early morning for these shots, always arriving back later than I had intended.
