St. Nicholas Church

photoblog-day-145.jpg

St. Nicholas church is one of the prettiest and influential churches in Germany. Johann Sebastian Bach, the famous composer, was organist here and the well known Monday prayers started here that rallied hundreds of thousands of people in the late 1980’s to end Communist dictatorship in former East-Germany.

The church was started in 1165 as a Romanesque basilica. Later it was transformed into a Gothic cathedral and in the 18th century changed into a neoclassical church. The church was constantly flooded by visitors and I had a hard time photographing without people walking through my viewfinder.

Happy photographing
