photoblog-day-179.jpg

I have a great time with my “light-box” photographing all kinds of things and observing how the “light from the bottom” changes everything. Just for fun: I inverted the images.

Enjoy!

Drill baby drill…..

photoblog-day-175.jpg

While I was photographing in Turlock, CA, I saw this Gentleman working on the Barber’s entrance. He also gave me permission to photograph him and I noticed how concentrated and intense his facial expression was during the drilling. I found out that most people will say yes, if you ask them for permission to photograph them. I never ask, “can I take your picture, please?” This suggests that you want to take, maybe even take away from the subject. Instead I ask, “do you give me permission to photograph you?”

Happy photographing

A simple leaf

photoblog-day-178.jpg

David built me a lighthouse, which is basically a box with 4 lights and a glass plate. You put objects on it and photograph them. In this example I used a simple leaf.

Enjoy!

Tree Tunnel

bloghiway-1-tree-tunnel.jpg

Sometimes a great photo opportunity is just around the corner. I was on vacation in the Fort Bragg area going north on Highway 1, it had turned away from the coast and I was debating whether to continue on or head back to the waves, fog and coastline when I came upon this shot.

Photography is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get. Ever had bad chocolate??!!

For some great fall photos without going very far, lots of color and free try one of the local pumpkin patches.  There’s usually tons of photo opportunities and great atmosphere.blogpumpkin-patch-pumpkins.jpg

These were taken at a pumpkin patch near LeGrand.

It was a lot of fun to photograph these young cats. I used  an 85mm portrait lens at f2.8 to blur the background as much as possible.

Enjoy!

It’ll grow back

photoblog-day-176b.jpg

I was photographing in historic downtown Turlock, CA, when I got the opportunity to photograph inside a barber store. I decided to  convert this image into a black and white sepia tone. Enjoy!

Sunset at Lake Yosemite

photoblog-day-174.jpg

Lake Yosemite is one of my favorite places to photograph. I have a portrait session tonight so went out to test the light and to shoot this sunset. I walked along the shore until I found this spot that double frames the sun. The two trees embrace the sun and the twigs form a natural frame which gives the images a lot of depths. The reflecting rays on the water surface draw your eyes right into the sun.Camera settings: 24-105 lens @ 70mm, f 7.1, 1/320sec, ISO 100.

Enjoy!

UC Merced

photoblog-day-173.jpg

Last night my wife and I went out to UC Merced to photograph. My goal was to shoot buildings at night. The reflection in the water was an added bonus. My camera settings: F7.1, 30sec. ISO 100 tripod mounted.

Enjoy!

Tufa 02 (Mono Lake)

photoblog-day-171.jpg

This week-end I was working through my images from our trip to Yosemite and Mono Lake. This shot was taken in the late afternoon. The sun light was soft and I composed this image for 3d or the feeling of space. There is a clear foreground, middle and background.

Enjoy!
