My best friend

Many times I asked myself “How to show personality?” What is the essence of a human being and how can you photograph it? The famous portrait photographer Richard Avedon photographed people on a white background, eliminating their context and reducing the subject to what he thought was important. There is certainly a lot that can distract us; however I believe an important aspect of portrait photography is relational. We a re a great deal defined through our relationships. In this image I tried to show the relationship between the teenager and her cat. The closed eyes and hugging hand reveal intimacy. The cat looks the girl straight into the eyes showing that the relationship is mutual.  The body of the girl, the arm and cat show a circular structure that your eye automatically wander around the image reminding me of a ring, the symbol of commitment and trust.
