Autumns Past
20. September 2009 by David.
Still in that ‘When is it going to cool off’ mode, and still cleaning out my hard drive. Might just keep this one. This was taken last October in Yosemite, of course. I set the camera at 18mm, F3.5, 1/100 sec, and exposure compensation of -1. Hope you enjoy!

Yosemite Road in Winter
19. September 2009 by David.
I’m in the process of backing up all my photographs cleaning out my hard drive. I’ve also been thinking about heading back to Yosemite, how hot it is right now and fall which is one of the best times to photograph. I came across this photo taken last January and thought I’d share.

A rose after the rain
18. September 2009 by Friedhelm.
The first rain came a little bit early in Central California this year. I loved it because it created a lot of photo opportunities. I did not have to look or go very far. The roses in my back yard were full of water drops and created a wonderful display of light reflections.
Enjoy!

Playing with fire
17. September 2009 by Friedhelm.
The theme for next month in the Chowchilla Photoclub is “Candles.” I wanted to create more than just putting a candle in front of the camera. First I added a glass with water and blue food color. I used a white light to create some reflection in the glass. Normally candle light burns pretty steady and I wanted a wild flame. In my first test shots I created s small draft. I took some more test shots and still was not satisfied. Since the lens was stopped down to f22 I decided to try something totally different. I extinct the candle light, set the camera on a timer and used a gas lighter to paint the flame.
Enjoy!

Tufa (Mono Lake)
16. September 2009 by Friedhelm.
Mono Lake is an incredible ecosystem at the eastern Sierra Nevada. It is very pleasing that it is in the process of being restored. My camera setting was 80mm, f32, 1/20sec, ISO 100, of course tripod mounted. Enjoy!

Shadow creation
15. September 2009 by Friedhelm.
When we were children we loved to create shadow images with our walls. Shadows are also a very important part of photography. In this image I used the leaves and one light source to create the shadow of a bird that is picking on a flower. Question; Should I have the images totally converted into black and white?
Have fun photographing and creating

Action is the name of the game
14. September 2009 by Friedhelm.
I admire every sport photographer. In order to get good at it you have to develop a sense of where the action is going. Speed is the name of the game. You have to be ready at any time. In this image I pre-focused on the goal and I was waiting for the player to make his move. I got lucky. I froze the action just a 1/10th of a second before the ball got into the net. My camera setting was zoom lens @160mm, f5, 1/3200s, ISO 400.
Enjoy!

Chowchilla Car Show
12. September 2009 by David.
Every year the Chowchilla District Chamber of Commerce sponsors a car show. While I was supposed to be working I did take a little time off to snap a few photographs. These cars were beautiful with their perfect paint, restored interiors and of course lots of chrome. I used this particular chrome hubcap like a fisheye lens to capture the car next to it. Telephoto lens set at 40mm, 1/5o sec. at f10, handheld.
If you were wondering how the weather was:
Bet you wish you were at the car show today. Well, it’s just another 12 months away, mark you calendar.

My Garage
12. September 2009 by David.
Here is one of my submissions for the photo clubs ‘what’s in your garage’. I have accumulated a lot of excess computer parts over the years and collected (intentionally) several old typewriters. I like the juxtaposition of the two.
I shot these on my kitchen table with two daylight flourescent bulbs and silver umbrellas. F11, 1/3 second.

9-11 remembered
11. September 2009 by Friedhelm.
I visited New York in 2007 and I will never forget the impression of being at a place where almost 3,000 people have been murdered. I created a collage out of three images. There is the subway sign that still refers to the Word Trade Center, the uniform of a firefighter and the table inside the church that was almost miraculously saved from destruction. On the table you see the pictures of many lost lives. 9-11-2001 is definitely a defining moment in my life and I decided that I don’t want to life by fear.
With deep respect for the victims families and all the rescue workers
