A ‘Civil’ War revisited
4. October 2009 by David.
Yesterday I went to Fresno Historical Society’s Civil War Revisited. There was a reinactment of a battle but I found the people and things of the period more interesting. For the weekend the participants live life, with the exception of cell phone use, just as they would during the Civil War. It is truly an educational experience. And seeing the ‘casualties’ that were left on the battlefield after the battle was somewhat disturbing for me. They didn’t just get up and walk away but stayed down for a good five minutes.
Note the flags just behind the rifles. The participants, in character, were very clear on why they were there and what they were trying to accomplish.
Next year I’ll get there earlier and spend more time on the people. A very interesting group both in character and not. As I mentioned they really do live the life for a weekend.
