Fall in Merced
21. October 2009 by Friedhelm.
David’s images from Mt. Shasta are just great! I tried to capture a little bit of Fall right around my neighborhood. The challenge for me is to capture the beauty of a tree without a car in the background. This time I got lucky. Camera setting: standard 50mm lens, f5.6, 1/80sec., ISO 100.
Enjoy!

Colors of Fall
20. October 2009 by David.
This is the view just up the block from my brothers house in Mt. Shasta California. Not bad! The day was overcast so you can imagine how much more pop these tree would have with a bright sun shining through them, but I think it’s a pretty good shot anyway: F15, ISO 200, 135mm, 1/15 sec.
Hope you enjoy.

Fall around Pondosa CA
19. October 2009 by David.
On my brief trip to the Mt. Shasta area I decided to take the long way home. I came across a road to an old logging town that I hadn’t seen in probably 40 years called Pondosa. Well the town no longer exits, virtually everything is gone. But on the way in I came across this creek……………..
As I said in my last post, the seasons are changing, nows the time to get out there.

“Natural” Grapes
19. October 2009 by Friedhelm.
I am fascinated with my light-box and I try all kinds of light settings and watch the results carefully just like the pioneers of photography did. IT is quite a difference to read about a photo technique or to experiment yourself. Camera setting: 135mm lens, extension tubes, F22, 1/25sec., ISO 100.
Just one comment: I did not want to use silicon spray and water spray. These grapes are chilled and taken directly from the refrigerator.
Enjoy!

Golden Oaks
18. October 2009 by David.
I just spent a couple of days in the Mt. Shasta area helping my brother. Not much time to photograph. The leaves on the trees are really changing up there and to paraphrase ‘the hills are alive with color’ . Now is some of the best time to photograph with the foliage changing and waterfowl starting their migration. So charge those batteries and keep your camera handy.

Avocados
18. October 2009 by Friedhelm.
Currently I am reading the “Daybooks of “Edward Weston.” Westen photographed peppers and other vegetables with his large format camera. He inspired me to tremendously and I decided to open our refrigerator door to look for proper subjects. I found two avocados that I arranged carefully and photographed several times. This is one of the images I like. Enjoy!

Half Dome - classic view
17. October 2009 by Friedhelm.
How many photographs have I seen of Half Dome like this. Frames by trees, reflection in the Merced river etc. - and still this view is always fascinating to me. This image is taken close to Ahwahnee bridge and I hope you enjoy it!

When your disadvantage becomes your opportunity
16. October 2009 by Friedhelm.
The wind was blowing and I did not have a tent with me to photograph. You try to focus on your subject and it moves through your viewfinder. A nightmare for every photographer. In order to get at a clear image I had to use ISO 400 instead of ISO 100 and I had to open up my lens to shoot at 1/1250 sec to freeze the action. Then I had to take several shots to capture the flower at the right moment. When I looked at the image on my computer I discovered the wind had created an interesting composition. Plant particles were flying through the air creating a dynamic that I would nit have captured on a calm day. It taught me a lesson. Never give up in adverse condition. There is always the chance that you photograph something interesting.
Enjoy and have a great day!

A simple thistle
15. October 2009 by Friedhelm.
On Monday I was photographing around Los Banos, CA. I was looking for birds when I saw a group of thistles. They looked just great swinging in the wind. In order to get a sharp image I had to open up the lens or increase the ISO setting on my camera. I opted for less depths of field and shot this one at 1/320 of a second.
Enjoy!

My wife’s flower bouquet - a great subject
14. October 2009 by Friedhelm.
My wife got a nice flower bouquet which I had to borrow to photograph. I put it on my light box and I used three additional white(5600k) lights to illuminate the subject. I moved the lights around until I found an interesting setting that I photographed. Camera setting: f22, 1.3sec, ISO 100 tripod mounted!
Enjoy!
