Walking in the December fog

photoblog-day-255b.jpg

I was photographing in my neighborhood park early in the morning. It was a typical foggy December morning in central California. I had this beautiful soft light and I just was finishing framing the shot when I discovered another person coming from the right. I decide to incorporate him in the shot and so I waited until he walked in the the scene. The man changed the dynamic of the entire image.Despite the fact that he is relatively little he is becomes the focal point because he is the only human being in the picture. Furthermore, he is moving while the rest of the image is just sitting there.

The more I thought about this image the more I liked it. I hope you enjoy it also.

New Watchdog!

With the budget crisis in California and the Federal Government the Merced Wildlife Refuge has employed some of the natural residents of the area to help enforce the rules and regulations.

Last Sunday when I was done with my ‘have to’s’ I had just enough time to take a run to the Merced Wildlife Refuge. It rained most of the way up and I could see that the sunset was going to be blocked by heavy clouds. Once I got there the rain stopped and the wind was calm but the sunset was still overcast. However looking to the east I was able to catch this shot of the storm breaking up. F6.3, 1/85 of a sec. 65mm at ISO 400.

The many faces of Christmas part 04

photoblog-day-254.jpg

Last night I walked around my neighborhood (I live in Merced, CA) to find some interesting Christmas decorations around my neighborhood. Not too far from us I found this little electric train that sparked my interest. I used a tripod of course and my camera setting was f11, 2sec., ISO 100.

Don’t forget you find interesting subjects right in front of your door steps. Many time I thought, I wish I would live in ….to photograph great images. It’s a temptation to overlook all the interesting images around your home. I take a camera with me every morning when I do my exercise walk and instead of carrying weights I have a tripod on my shoulders.

I photographed this in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Ludwigsburg is a relatively small town close to Stuttgart. We visited the city because of the famous castle which I photographed intensely, however before we entered the castle I saw this house. The yellow and green tones complement each other and it was just naturally that I had to press the shutter.

Enjoy!

I photographed these ornaments in front of the Cathedral in Strasbourg, France. By the way, the Cathedral was the world tallest building for more than 200 years from 1647-1874. Strasbourg is a beautiful city and seat of the European Parliament.  During the Christmas time the city is beautiful decorated and provides great opportunities for every photographer.

Enjoy!

I photographed many animals that are well cared for. Unfortunately there will be many pets given as Christmas gifts and afterwards abandoned. When you give a pet keep in mind, that it will require years of commitment. Having said this, enjoy your animal and this image. Studio shot: One strobe light (umbrella) from above, f5.0. 1/250sec., ISO 200.

Rocket Museum in Penemuende, Germany

photoblog-day-248-b.jpg

My visit to the Castle Air-force Museum brought back memories from my visit to the Rocket  Museum in Penenmuende, Germany in January of 2008.  I photographed this V1 (buzzbomb) outside the museum. TheV1 and V2 were largely produced through concentration camp workers. In one of exhibition halls were suitcases of those slave laborers who were literally worked to death. Photographing those suitcases showed me the reality of the Nazi regime. A horrible statistic of the V2 rocket: More people were killed making it than though the actual usage. It made me also aware how precious peace is.

Old Atwater Barn

blogatwater-barn.jpg

I recently saw a video called ‘American Photography, A Century of Images’. One of the photographers mentioned was Paul Strand, who in 1915 came up with the idea of using photography to show shapes and forms and was credited with starting ‘modern photography. His images reminded me of some I’ve taken. One in particular that came to mind was this one of an old barn roof structure.

This was taken a couple of years ago but is still a favorite of mine. I changed it to black and white for effect. I was using an advanced point and shoot.  F5.6, ISO 80, 17mm wide angle.

A portrait on a rainy day

photoblog-day-250.jpg

The last few days were a challenge for me. First it was bitterly cold and then it got rainy. I took my exercise walk in between rain storms yesterday morning and discovered this bird on a tree. It was overcast, high fog and all looked gray in gray. The perfect weather to get depressed, in other words. On the bright side, the light for photography was very soft and great for outside portraits. So I took a portrait of this crane using a 200mm lens, tripod mounted, f3.5, 1/500sec., ISO 100. Enjoy and have a happy week-end!
