Close-up of storm damaged tree

photoblog-day-290.jpg

I went back to the tree and this time I took a different set of lenses and a reflector with me. The white reflector helped me tremendously to direct the light where I wanted it to be. Sometimes a little tool makes all the difference in the world. Camera setting:  f20, 1/15sec., ISO 100.

Enjoy!

Glitter fountains

Busy day at work so I had to do a little still life. One warning about doing this type of photograph… You have to like glitter because you’ll live with it for a while.

Bridge to …..

bridge-long-view.jpg

When you go to Yosemite you seldom find areas such as the bridges to yourself. Though a few people had passed this way before me I had plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take this  photograph.

Broken Branch

photoblog-day-289.jpg

Again, this is an image I photographed two days ago on my regular morning walk. The recent winter storm was hard on many trees in Merced, CA. This tree toppled over and branches were broken off. For maximum depth of field I used a tripod and f22, 1/13sec., ISO 100.

Enjoy your exercise walk and always take a camera with you!

A bench and a tree in the fog

photoblog-day-288.jpg

This is one of my favorite images of 2010 so far. Like yesterday’s image, it is a very simple image. There is just a tree and a bench. The fog hides the houses in the background. The composition of the two creates the beauty of the image. Harald Mante says in his book the Photograph, that one point in an image dominates the picture and that two points create tension. The tension is supported by the fact that the bench is a “man made thing” and the tree is “planted and alive.”

For me this image is a representation of the last two hundred years of history. Since the industrial revolution we put man-made things into the foreground and how many times have we put nature into the background. I hope we will learn to create harmony between the two of them.

Enjoy the image and who knows it may inspire you to think or/and to photograph

Nail on a fence board

photoblog-day-287.jpg

My morning exercise walk serves two purposes. I hope to keep my body in shape and I try to keep my photographic eye sharp. Most of the time I walk the same route and I am amazed how many times I discover something that I have not seen before like this nail on a fence board. When I walk I try to keep my camera gear to a minimum. I love to take just one lens with me. The morning I photographed the nail, I just took my 85mm portrait lens and a 12mm extender to get some close-up shots like this one. Camera setting: f2.8, 1/80sec., ISO 100.

Enjoy and challenge yourself photographing with just one lens!

Got water and a camera?

photoblog-day-286.jpg

I experimented with water by plashing water on concrete.  There was a building to my left and a large tree to my right. It was overcast and I photographed the”whole mess”. It turned out better than I thought.

Have fun with photography!

The old tree in Yosemite Valley

photoblog-day-284.jpg

This is probably one of the most photographed tree in Yosemite Valley. At least I know for sure that I photographed this tree several times and still there is always something fascinating about it. I cannot even describe what it is but I feel often drawn to this tree.

Enjoy the image!

Mother nature at her best

photoblog-day-283.jpg

We drove yesterday 01-23-2010) to Yosemite to see and to photograph Yosemite Valley after the last winter storm. The sun was shining, there were big puffy clouds and a winter wonderland.

Enjoy!

No Ducks but……

I wasn’t able to take the day off to photograph so in the late afternoon I went to the Merced Wildlife Refuge hoping to get some waterfowl photographs. Very few ducks but being a lover of landscapes I still considered the shoot a success.
