Hatfield State Recreational Area

photoblog-day-354.jpg

Hatfield SRA is located pretty much in the center of central California. It was pretty windy and cold day. I wanted to shoot with a Cokin infrared filter and expected a lot of motion blur in the branches of the trees. Enjoy and have a great week-end!

Camera setting: f11, 15sec., ISO 100 IR filter

Lake Yosemite after sunset

photoblog-day-353.jpg

There are more winter storms in California this year than the last years. Every time a rain storm moves through the Central Valley there is a great opportunity to photograph beautiful sunsets and landscapes with great clouds.  I created this image after I already thought: “Let’s go home, photography time is over.” I remembered the words of one of my photography teachers who said: “When other photographers put their cameras away you start shooting!” I am glad I did, because the red reflected colors on the lake are absolutely stunning! Camera setting: 70mm focal length, f14, 1/8sec., ISO 100

Dogwood

photoblog-day-352.jpg

I photographed this red Dogwood at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. In the beginning of April the dogwood starts to bloom in the Valley and four to six weeks later it starts to bloom in Yosemite, NP. This is a fine example how important the background in a photograph is. The blue color lets the red colors shine. Camera setting: f5.0, 1/80sec.,ISO400.

Enjoy!

I trust my nose

photoblog-day-351.jpg

When we shot portraits we always make sure that we focus on the eyes because usually eyes make or break a portrait. In this image I focused on the nose implying the message that for a dog the nose is more important than the eyes. Camera setting: f4, 1/800sec., ISO 100.

Enjoy!

Thank you all for giving our second photographic exercise blog such a good start. Take a look at www.passionforphotos.com and start doing the exercises. you will get a lot out of them.

Easter Lily

photoblog-day-350.jpg

I used my “old” 4X5 camera connected to my DSLR to create this image. The 4X5 has 2 advantages. I can use the bellows for macro photography and the lens allows me to shoot at f32 and beyond to get a maximum depth of field which is always a problem in macro photography.

Later today I will post the second exercise on our newly created blog www.passionforphotos.com. Growing as a photographer happens a lot through regular photographic exercise. Take a look these exercises and do them for a week and see what happens to you as a photographer.

Looking over the fence

photoblog-day-349.jpg

The cat felt pretty secure on the fence. I could come pretty close to her and take this shot. Looking over the “photographic fence” is generally a good thing. It is good to know what other people are doing and seeing outside the box can be an eye opener.

Happy photographing!

Cows at Lake Yosemite

photoblog-day-348.jpg

After coming home from the East Coast I had to photograph at my favorite places. This image is created behind UC Merced at Lake Yosemite. The Spring evening was just gorgeous.

Enjoy!

Old tree in front of El Capitan and Half Dome

yosemite-44.jpg

After coming home from the East coast I had nothing better to do than to go with my partner to Yosemite. It is a great feeling to come home and go to Yosemite.

Notice how close El Capitan and Half Dome appear together in this image. David, my partner and I left the main road and hike towards the Cascades in order to get this shot. Camera setting: f22, 1/60sec. ISO 100.
Enjoy

The Old State House - Impressions of Boston, part 05

photoblog-day-347.jpg

From this balcony the Constitution was read to the Boston people. The Boston massacre also happened around this building. Today the place is surrounded by sky-scrapers. Camera setting: 15mm focal length, F11, 1/30sec. ISO 100.

Enjoy!

Theater of Electricity - Impressions of Boston part 04

photoblog-day-346.jpg

The weather in Boston can change rather quickly. When it started to rain we visited the Museum of Science. I was interested in the “Electricity Show” to photograph the electric discharges. Camera setting: f7.1, 6sec., ISO 400.

Enjoy!
