Four Brothers
21. July 2010 by Friedhelm.
There are great hikes through Muir Woods. On one of them I saw a group of trees together basically forming a “V” shape. This was the perfect shot for me. Camera setting: 104mm focal length, f8, o.3sec., ISO 100, tripod mounted.
Enjoy!

The Leaf and the Spider Net
20. July 2010 by Friedhelm.
On my walk through Muir Woods I came a cross this spider net. Looking closer i saw the a leaf got tangled up in it. Then the spider must have integrated the leaf into his construction and it became part of the net.
There is always something interesting to photograph in this world. Go out and find it!

Leopard Lily
18. July 2010 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this beautiful plant in north of San Francisco. Unfortunately there was a wind blowing and I to try several shot to get a good image. Camera setting: 200mm focal length, 12mm extension tube, f5.0, 1/50sec. -1, ISO 200
Enjoy and have a great photographic week!

Protected Beauty
18. July 2010 by David.
I wonder how long this flower would last if it didn’t have the spines of the cactus to protect it. The cactus was huge and this was the only flower on it. Well off the ground and among a cluster of spiny cacti.

Reflections of Yosemite
16. July 2010 by David.
I haven’t been to Yosemite in a while and was looking through some of my past photographs…………
It takes a few seconds to recognize what this is. It’s a reflections of Sentinel Dome and a branch sticking out of the Merced River. While looking through the photos I asked myself ‘what in the world is this?’. Then decided it was kinda cool and I liked the way it made me study and analyze the photograph. Hope you enjoy. Don’t you just love photography!!

Homeless in Merced
16. July 2010 by Friedhelm.
I did my usual exercise walk yesterday morning and When I walked around Rahilly Park I would a homeless person sleeping on the ground. This person had a backpack, suitcase, blankets and everything was neatly organized. Looking at the glasses I suspect that a girl was sleeping here. Was she kicked out by her family? Does she even have a family? I don’t know. What I know is that every time I photograph someone I also photograph someone’s history and I always wonder what happened in her past that she ended here.
Have a great Friday. It will be a very hot Friday int he Central Valley in California.

New Life
15. July 2010 by Friedhelm.
I discovered this little plant in between a pile of rubble.
Somehow it got my attention and I had to photograph it. In my mind I compared this plant to the oil catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico symbolized in the brick pile of rubble. I hope new life will grow in that area as well.
Have a great Thursday and happy photographing!

Parsley with a twist
14. July 2010 by Friedhelm.
I was photographing food compositions for a client today. I thought about Edward Weston who photographed all kinds of fruits and I decided to try to photograph some parsley that I had left. Originally I picked a white background and later inverted the image. At the end I overlaid the parsley with a blue color tone.
Enjoy and have fun with photography and post production!

Gerbera in a Vase
13. July 2010 by Friedhelm.
We got some flowers yesterday and I isolated this Gerbera by putting it in a new vase. The blue vase and the red flower are complimentary. By moving the entire subject to the left I created even more dynamic in this composition. I used two strobes to create this composition. The first light comes from the upper right and the second light from the lower left behind the flower. This light setting creates a nice show inside the flower. Notice also the the white on the left gradually turns into a light gray adding to the dynamic of the picture. The frame around it is also created to support the overall structure of this image.
Enjoy!

Light & Shadow
12. July 2010 by Friedhelm.
Trees are fascinating to me and when ever I am walking I observe the trees. This tree I discovered in San Francisco. The light bark formed an incredible contrast to the dark leaves. Since the camera sees light different than the human eye I had either to bracket the and shoot for a HDR or I had to find a way to balance the light. I opted for balancing and in camera raw editing I applied a graduated filter on the bottom of the image. Camera setting: 24mm focal length (full frame camera), f11, 1/4sec., ISO 100, tripod mounted.
Enjoy and have a great photographic week!
