Fall Fun

photoblog-day-459.jpg

I went to the Farmer’s Market this morning. Gary and Pat Clausen from Gardens 2000 gave me permission to photograph their home made gourds. If you would like to contact them, here is their email address : gourds4u@sbcglobal.net.

I used a 135mm prime lens to create this image. I picked f4 to blur the background and used a tripod of course. Enjoy!

The Wheel

photoblog-day-458.jpg

Since the sun was so bright and the light harsh in Bodie, CA I was looking for shady places and indoor opportunities for images. In one of the barns I found an old wagon. I saw the perfect opportunity for a wheel image. Camera setting: 200mm focal length, f20, 0.5 sec., ISO 100.

Bodie #02

photoblog-day-457.jpg

Since the sun light was not favorable for the images I wanted to create I was constantly looking for shady places. One of the large house on Main Street provided lot’s of shadows and on the side I found the old chest and wheel barrow. I decided to lower my tripod and by using my 17-40mm lens the chest would appear larger than it actually was. The wheel barrow was perfect for the middle ground and the house provided an excellent backdrop. Camera setting: 17mm focal length (cropped), f11, 1/6sec. -1, ISO100, tripod mounted.

Bodie, CA

photoblog-day-456.jpg

Bodie is a fascinating ghost town to photograph. It is also a challenge for every photographer. The park closes at 6:00 PM just when the light got really good and I wished I could have photographed at least an hour longer. On the other side infrared photography is at it’s best when traditional photography is at it’s worst. This gave me the idea to create a mixed image out of both worlds. I photographed this old house in regular color at about 2:30 PM in camera raw. I created a regular image and a digital infrared image. Both images I combined. Camera setting: 17mm focal length (full frame sensor, slightly cropped), f11, 1/200sec., ISO 100 tripod mounted.

Enjoy

Reflections on Bodie

Several members of the Chowchilla Photo Club went to Bodie, CA yesterday.

reflections-of-bodie-6334.jpg

I was attracted to the distorted reflections created by the imperfect old glass in the window, the old window frame and metal siding.  While modern glass would have provided a more detailed and clearer view of Bodie and the surrounding hills I much prefer this look. Want a better look, take a trip to Bodie, you won’t regret it.

Class in a gas cap.

gas-cap-6191.jpg

Back when cars were as different as the people driving them, every part was a statement, from the curved lines of the various panels to the ridges and colored rings of the gas cap.

I opposed the darkness of the fender against the white of the body with the gas cap as a focus point and tying the two opposite colors.

Portrait in black and white

photoblog-day-454.jpg

I photographed this young lady in Yosemite National Park. She dressed up in jeans style clothing and she was wearing a cowboy hat to give the impression of a girl from the “wild” west. She is smiling and in her eyes you see the dreams, hopes and aspiration of someone who is just starting out conquering the world. I used the 4X5 or 8X10 format to reflect the normal portrait mode.

Street Music - Golden Gate Park

photoblog-day-453.jpg

I loved listening to this band right outside the Conservatory at the Golden gate Park. The music inspired me to stay and photograph around this area. They band was quite good and I was hoping they would have a larger audience.

Golden Gate Bridge in Clouds

photoblog-day-452.jpg

I sometimes wonder how many million times the Golden Gate Bridge has been photographed. I know that I have photographed it many times over the years; however until today the Bridge is still fascinating and an attraction to many. The quick changing weather in the San Francisco Bay ensures that the Bridge always looks different.
