Fountain in Golden Gate Park

photoblog-day-451.jpg

The light was pretty bright despite the fact that it was overcast most of the day. In order to get this image I had to use two neutral density filters and a graduated neutral density filter. I tried several setting and liked this one. camera setting: 29mm focal length, f22, 2sec., ISO 100 tripod mounted.

Enjoy and have a great week!

Reflections on a Pontiac

I went to the Chowchilla Chamber of Commerce Car Show yesterday.

pontiac-6193.jpg

It was set in the beautiful, Veterans Park with lots of trees and people milling around. This posed a real problem since all of the shiney surfaces on the cars reflected everything. Since I couldn’t fight it I decided to let the reflections add a little texture and interest. If I had taken them out in Photo Shop I think it would have lessened the photograph. This was taken on a restored Pontiac from an era where each car was distinctive and not another grey sedan or white SUV.

Even though is was late morning the trees provided enough shade that I had to use a longer exposure. F6.0@ 1/30sec, 122mm, iso125. Tripod of course.

Not a beach person!

I love the California Coast, but haven’t layed on the beach in probably 40 years.

not-a-beach-6101.jpg

I like the rocky coastline. While the waves weren’t crashing this day the pending sunset cast a beautiful hue to the craggy shore. I find watching this type of shoreline much more appealing and relaxing than a white sandy beach. It really does help wash my troubles away, at least for a little while.

1/10 sec at F22, 19mm, iso 125, unfiltered, tripod mounted.

Coulterville, CA

photoblog-day-450.jpg

Coulterville, “the Gold Rush Town too tough do die!” This is the headline of a brochure that we received at the local chamber of commerce. In this image you see on the left the old hotel Jefferey and some adjacent buildings. This is basically the main street and it leads directly to Yosemite. By the way, David brought a ladder in his pick-up truck and I shot this image from it.

Enjoy and happy Friday!

Old Organ

photoblog-day-449.jpg

I created an image of great tension/ Normally the eye wanders to the brightest point in the image. There is a lot of light in the bottom and in the top of the image, however I focused on the black parts in the bottom forcing the eye away from the brightest point to the darkest point. I thought about calling this image “light vs. darkness!” Camera setting: 85mm prime lens, f1.8, 1.6 sec., ISO 100, tripod mounted.

Enjoy and be creative with your images!

Very Busy

photoblog-day-448.jpg

I shot this image with a 85mm portrait lens and an extension ring. I used a wide open lens to get a very small depth of field. This image describes how I feel these days. I am very busy and I need to stay focused on those things that matter most.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Chinatown Sign in Coulterville

photoblog-day-447.jpg

On one of the old historic buildings in Coulterville, CA I discovered this old sign from Chinatown. I wonder how it got there. It was definitely worth photographing. By the way, David and I walked through the town for quite some time in the afternoon. The light was not the best to photograph so we decided to discover and look first. It paid off.

Enjoy and happy Tuesday!

Hummingbird

photoblog-day-446.jpg

We were photographing in Coulterville when suddenly this hummingbird showed up. I had my camera ready and was able to to create this image.

Enjoy and have a great week and always have your camera ready to go!

Remnants

remnants-10x-bw-6169.jpg

Friedhelm and I went to Coulterville yesterday, that’s a small former gold mining town in the Sierra foothills.

These old tricycles struck my eye, remnants of someones past. Reminded me of my childhood and the joy of barreling down the street with my friends, not a care in the world.  I had to shoot through a fence using it as my tripod. Sometimes there are just too many fences in California.

1/30sec, f5.6, 146mm, iso 125, sorta hand held.

Gull and Masts

I decided to try a new locale when I went to the coast last weekend

gull-and-masts2-6076.jpg

While wandering around and looking for someplace for lunch I came across the marina. I liked the crossing lines of the various masts and the seagull as the most prominent single point in the photograph.
