Roof Lines
31. October 2010 by David.
Lately I’ve found myself very interested in roof lines.
What better place to find interesting ones than Bodie. Not only do you have wonderful lines but great textures and muted hues as well, offset by the deep blue sky. I tried turning this to black and white but felt it lost something, more than just color.

Street Light Leaves
30. October 2010 by David.
When I visited my brother I got to his house late in the evening.
While hauling in my suitcase I was struck by the leaves being illuminated by the street light in front of his house. I took several shots trying to time them when the wind died down. I jumped my iso to 3200, lens at 5.6, 200mm and still had a 1/10 sec exposure.

The Bottle
29. October 2010 by Friedhelm.
I was photographing a water polo game when I discovered this bottle at the edge of the pool. I had to photograph it. The background is a mixture of warm and cold light and the direction of the bottle combined with the rim of the pool creates an interesting dynamic in this composition. Camera setting: 200mm focal length, f4, 1/500 sec., ISO 800, hand held.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Olive Oil
28. October 2010 by Friedhelm.

I went to the local Farmer’s Market where I discovered these bottles of olive oil. The sun was shining from a pretty good angle and I decided to photograph them. The owner was very friendly and gave me permission to do so. It is always a good idea to ask for permission even if you don’t have to. It opens up the possibility for getting a new client. Just introduce yourself and give out your business card.

Orchard in October
27. October 2010 by Friedhelm.
This is a typical view of an orchard in central California. I took this image on my home from Chowchilla, CA to Merced, CA. The light was pretty harsh in the early afternoon but they created these beautiful shadows on the trees and the reflection in the irrigation water was just great.

The Streets of San Francisco
26. October 2010 by Friedhelm.
One of the greatest gifts we have is time. Time equals life and many of us complain about having not enough time. The good news is that photography requires time. Time to stop and look, time to observe, to see how the camera sees etc. You cannot drive through the street of San Francisco, roll down the window, take a few snapshots and expect great images. During my last trip I decided to take the public transportation and hike through the city. I saw things that I have never seen before and I know I will do it again. It will take time and perseverance, but I know the great image will slowly develop in my head and then in my camera.
Enjoy your photography!

The Pumpkin
25. October 2010 by Friedhelm.
Pumpkin patches are great opportunities to photograph. There are beautiful fall colors everywhere and pumpkins, gourds etc. are great subjects. Camera settings: 159mm focal length (image cropped) f5.0, 1/100sec., ISO 100, tripod mounted.
Enjoy and have a great photographic week!

A Different Fall
23. October 2010 by David.
Usually fall photos are all about the colors, orange, red, etc.
While on a hike along the Mc Cloud River my sister, Annette, pointed out these seeds, another sign of fall. I like the lines of the branch and seed pods, and of course the fall colors that make up the background. Thanks Annette.
Since we were on a walk there wasn’t much time to set up a tripod, I shot this at 1/160th f5.6 of a second and bumped the iso up a little to 200.

The Floor
22. October 2010 by David.
While visiting my home town I went by the abandoned railyard a few blocks from my parents house.
I came across an old caboose that had apparently been in an accident. The floor on the back had been crumpled up and I liked the ‘other worldly’ look when I did this close-up. Because of the location I had to do it handheld and at 1/10sec, thank goodness for image stabalization.

Homeless
22. October 2010 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this young homeless cat on my exercise walk. In the beginning she was camera shy but after a while she let me photograph her and she even posed for me. I wish I would be able to find a good home for her. Camera setting: 50mm prime lens, f2.8, 1/50sec., ISO 400 hand held.
Happy photographing!
