Sunset, Merced Game Refuge

photoblog-day-502.jpg

Sunsets at the Merced Game Refuge are often spectacular. When David, my wife and I went there we were admiring the rich color contrast. There are the dark brown to black color tones in the front and the light yellow in the sun and in between the blue and gray tones of the water and clouds. In addition I like the implied lines in the clouds. They all serve as leading lines towards the sun.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Coyote, Yosemite NP

photoblog-day-500.jpg

As soon as the winter arrives in Yosemite National Park, the animal come down to the Valley. You see coyotes and deer quite often in Yosemite Valley. This one was running besides the road and I was lucky to have my camera ready.

Enjoy and happy Monday!

Colorado Fall

Looking through some of my photographs from this summer I found this…

colorado-fall-5606.jpg

I was on a hike with my sister and her boyfriend. We were in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and this is the bottom of the ‘hill’. Felt more like a mountain on the way back up. To give you some idea of where we were, this was taken in early August and the leaves were already starting to turn.

Valley Snow

Since winter has finally gotten here, I thought I’d post a photograph of a different kind of snow.

During the spring the Valley experiences a different kind of snow. As the petals fall off the trees they create this beautiful and warmer type of snow. Sometimes it’s even pink.  Keep warm and…….

Merced River, Yosemite NP

photoblog-day-501.jpg

My wife and I did a quick trip up to Yosemite to catch some early winter images. We were not disappointed. It was absolutely gorgeous. I photographed along the Merced river and as we climbed from about 2000 feet to 4000 feet the amount of snow on the ground increased steadily.

Enjoy and happy shopping if you have courage to go out and face the crowds.

Fall in my Front Yard 02

photoblog-day-496.jpg

I created this image right in my front yard. The colors were spectacular right before the big frost hit us. I love the contrast between the green, yellow, brown and the red colors.

Enjoy and happy Thanksgiving!

Tough Guy

photoblog-day-499.jpg

I used three strobes to create this image. On the left I used a soft light created by using an umbrella. On the right side I used a barn door creating a harsh light. I used a powered down third light source in the front  to just slightly illuminate the face of the subject. In post production I just took the saturation level down a notch to even more show the toughness.

A mixture of hard and soft light in a male subject can create a great image! Enjoy and be creative with your lightning!

Looking for a Home

photoblog-day-498.jpg

Is’nt this cat beautiful? She is one of the young stray cats living in park looking for a home. This cat is very social. She loves to be pet and is not shy of people like the many other stray cats. I hope I can find a good home for her. In order to create this image I used an 85mm portrait lens at f2.8. You see only her face in focus.

Enjoy this image and treat your pets with love and care. Happy photographing!

Droplets and Leaves

photoblog-day-497.jpg

Fall is and wonderful to to go outside and photograph mother nature. I created this image in Mariposa, CA while on a photo trip with the Chowchilla Photo Club. Interesting is the different size of droplets on different size of leaves. The water takes on a blue color tone and you see fall colors and fresh green.

Enjoy and happy Monday!

Shorebirds at Sunset

Determined to get a shot of some kind of bird at the Merced Wildlife Refuge I decided to try a bird a little smaller than  a goose.

shorebirds-and-sunset-6908.jpg

While the larger birds were coming in and going to the center of the refuge I decided to try and get a shot of these shore birds. It entailed running down the road, camera and tripod in tow, looking for the right angle and hoping they would stop long enough in one spot. I still had to use my telephoto at it’s longest setting (250mm), I set the iso at 250 and shot f5.6 at 1/80 of a second.
