Signs of Spring
31. January 2011 by Friedhelm.
January 31 is usually the first day where there is some tree blooming in the Central Valley of California. I was looking for signs of Spring over the week-end and photographed the above image. On my morning exercise walk I usually carry only one lens with me. This forces me to stay focused on the subject and not on the lens, however I cheat a little bit by also having an extender with me to get some close-up shots. In this case I used a 100-400 mm zoom lens with a 12mm extender and despite the fact that the 100-400 mm lens is not a typical macro lens I still love the image.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Lake Yosemite in Winter
30. January 2011 by David.
Friedhelm and I took a short trip to Lake Yosemite yesterday.
Even in winter there is a little bit of color and Lake Yosemite always has something interesting to show you. While I was wandering around I noticed a fairly large area that looks like there will be some daffodils in a month or so, looks like I just may have to return there again. Stay tuned kiddies.

Twins
29. January 2011 by David.
These are from the smallest plane at the museum.
Well it really isn’t a plane in the classic sense, no one could ride in this one. The KAQ-1 is a radio controlled drone that was used for target practice among other things. It could probably fit in the back of my pickup if you let the wings stick out. I like the color contrasts as well as the lines.

Greek Statue
28. January 2011 by Friedhelm.
I was privileged to photograph inside the Pergamon Museum in Berlin a month ago. Recently the museum announced the restoration of ancient statues that were heavily damaged during WWII. For more information go to http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/20110127/ap_tr_ge/eu_travel_brief_germany_rescued_statues.
I liked this Greek statue and despite the fact that the light condition was horrible I was able to create this image. Camera setting: Canon 5D MII, 24-105 lens, f4.0, 1/30sec., ISO 3200, hand held.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Take my hand
27. January 2011 by Friedhelm.
Last Saturday while I was wandering through the streets of San Francisco I stumbled upon a demonstration of anti-abortionist. I later found out that it was the 38th year of the famous Supreme Court trial Roe vs. Wade. I decided to cease the moment and photographed the people. This poster caught my attention.
Sometimes your own pictures make you think, especially when I consider that today is my sister’s birthday and tomorrow will be my daughter’s birthday. For me a reason to be thankful for their lives and all the good they have done.
Happy photographing!

Wind Energy
26. January 2011 by Friedhelm.
I photographed these two windmills in northern Germany right at sunset. The old windmill and the new turbine in the background create an interesting contrast. In addition the warm sunlight and the cold snow create another nice contrast.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Airplane Engine
25. January 2011 by Friedhelm.
This is another image I photographed at Castle Air Museum in Atwater, CA. I used a 400mm zoom lens at 330 mm to get close to the center of this jet engine. Enjoy and happy photographing!

The Musician at Sans Souci
24. January 2011 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this musician in front of the castle Sans Souci in Potsdam, Germany which is located close to Berlin. Sans Souci is very pretty and you are welcomed by this “Baroque” musician. I thought I put this image into a different frame.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Walnut Tree In Fog
23. January 2011 by David.
For years I’ve passed these old, dead walnut trees lining one of the roads into Chowchilla.
With the heavy fog today I decided to finally photograph them. I used my 50mm prime lens that gave me the proportions and depth of field I wanted. This time I decided to keep the little bit of color in the grass instead of changing the whole photo to black and white. The 50mm is also tack sharp.

Three Flying Machines
22. January 2011 by David.
Here’s another photo from the Castle Air Museum in Atwater.
This is the prop from a B-24, the tail section of a KC-97 and of course the pigeons. I converted it to black and white since the sky was grey anyway. Then I added grain and contrast to give it an older look.
