Snow in the Foothills

photoblog-day-568.jpg

On our way from Chowchilla to Carmel we stopped somewhere between Casa de Fruta and Hwy.101. We were all astonished to see snow on the  hilltops. Of course I had to photograph it.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Sunset, A Little Later

On Monday Friedhelm posted the sky just prior to sunset at Point Lobos State Park.

He told me I could post the actual sunset so here it is. We had a very successful day of photography around the Carmel area. His wife Nancy even got to do a little shopping.  This is the time of the year when the sky and sunsets are the most interesting so get out there and take advantage.  Spring flowers are just around the corner.

A Tree in Carmel

While in Carmel last week we wandered around downtown for a while.

I looked up and saw this image. I like the contrasts between the building and the tree. The lines, textures, colors and how they all seem to point to the roof line. Looking at it now I should have also zoomed in on the balcony and the shadows it produced.  I used my great Tokina 12-24mm lens at it’s widest setting of 12mm. Set the iso at 125 for 1/50 sec at f9.

Mail Boxes in Spring

photoblog-day-553.jpg

This is another image that I converted to a digital painting. I photographed a group of mailboxes under a blooming tree. Looking at the image on my computer screen I decided to use Pixelbender, a free plug-in from Adobe to alter my image.

Enjoy and have a great week-end!

Egret

photoblog-day-567.jpg

Sometimes you just have to have a little luck. On my morning walk I saw this egret and I got this image with one foot up. A second later the bird took off.

Also, I am always amazed how sharp this Canon 70-200l lens is. David and I talked about cameras and lenses a lot and we think that it is more important to invest into great lenses than into camera bodies. You will keep your good lens a lot longer than your body which will be outdated in just a few years.

Have fun with your images and happy photographing!

Bridalveil Creek

photoblog-day-565.jpg

I just love to photograph in Yosemite. Bridalveil Creek appears so different during the seasons, even during the hours of the day. I created this image during the morning hours using a tripod. The silky blur effect of the water you get by using an exposure time of about 1 second and of course using a tripod. Camera setting: 14-40mm lens at 29mm, f20, 1.3sec., ISO 100.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Yesterday I left the house early in the morning to photograph images with early morning fog. Instead the morning started out as clear as it gets and the light was “golden.” I stopped at one of my favorites trees on Olive Ave. and got this image. Sometimes you don’t get what you were hoping for and instead you get something even better. Photography is like life and life is always full of surprises.

Happy photographing!

Clouds at the Coast

photoblog-day-563.jpg

David, Nancy and I went to the coast yesterday. First we photographed in Carmel, CA and in the evening we drove to Point Lobos State Park which is located a few miles south of Carmel. The clouds were just stunning and we tried to capture them in the camera.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Vines

Spring is just starting but signs are everywhere.

mission-carmel-flowers-7619.jpg

These vines and flowers were gracing a porch at Mission San Carlos  Borromeo del Rio Carmelo. I liked the way the vines all point to the flowers, even the ones in the background. The contrast of the bright blue and white flowers contrast to the darker shades of brown.

The Central Coast

Thought I’d share a somewhat classic photo of the California Coast.

central-coast-classic-7649.jpg

As I’ve said before I’m not a beach person. This is my kind of California Coastline, lots of rocks, crashing waves etc. This was taken at Point Lobos State Park, not very far from the parking lot. The only problem with this type of coastline is the waves can sometimes fool you. I learned that a couple of hours after this photo was taken. Camera’s fine though.
