Creative Hands
31. March 2011 by Friedhelm.
I was privileged this morning to photograph at a local senior center. A local artist invited me to photograph while the attendees were creating beautiful artwork. This is one of the images that I created using a 85mm portrait lens at f 2.8. I had to crank up the ISO to 800 to get 1 1/125sec. exposure time.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Standing Tall
30. March 2011 by Friedhelm.
We were told that Kings canyon received 100 inches of snow (about three meters) in just one week! It took me about 90 minutes for the short walk around the Sequoia trees in Grand Grove. The trees were covered in snow in this winter wonderland.

An Ordinary Window in LaGrange
29. March 2011 by Friedhelm.
David and I decided to drive to LaGrange, CA a small community in central California. There I found this window with the flower in it. I like to photograph windows and added this one to my collections.

Concentration of a Painter
28. March 2011 by Friedhelm.
Nancy and I went to a local art performance yesterday. I photographed the performers by emphasizing their faces and their hands. I believe that beside the face the hands are the most important body parts of a great portrait. I shot all these images with my full frame camera and a 50mm prime lens. Since it was pretty dark I used f2.8 at ISO 1600.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Sandy Mush Road
27. March 2011 by David.
Sandy Mush Road is the road I take to get to the Merced Wildlife Refuge.
On a recent trip, trying to beat the sunset, I stopped to get this shot. Being a ‘line’ guy I of course like the lines that draw you into the photograph. I like the little waver in the road markings as well.

Three Palms and a Sunset
26. March 2011 by David.
As I arrived home from work the other day I was greeted by this sunset.
I hurriedly went into the house grabbed my camera and went out to my backyard. There I positioned my stepladder to get as high as I could to block out my neighbors houses. After a few shots I got into my car to see where else I could get a photograph of this wonderful sunset. Unfortunately by the time I was a few blocks away it had disappeared.

Waves
25. March 2011 by Friedhelm.
The power and beauty of the Pacific Ocean is always fascinating. I love photographing waves at relatively long exposure times. I mounted the camera on the tripod and then just waited for the time when the waves were coming in. In this image I stopped the lens down to f20 which gave me an exposure time of 1/2 second. Oh, did I mention that I got wet photographing. It is a real good idea to bring a second set of clothing if you are photographing at the coast.
Enjoy and have a good time with your camera!

24. March 2011 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this this iron gate at the Carmel Mission. The gate has a beautiful pattern which is enhanced through the rust spots.

Salamander Safe
23. March 2011 by Friedhelm.
The people at the Benicia Capitol building were very friendly. They even let me into their office to photograph the old Salamander safe in their office. This safe was built in 1843 in New York city and was considered the first fireproof safe in the nation. It is still used today only with a new lock. I photographed the front plate in very low light conditions with the help of a tripod.

Spittoons
22. March 2011 by Friedhelm.
The spittoons on the floor of the Senate Chamber caught my attentions. I don’t believe they are in today’s parliament buildings. I composed the image by photographing three spittoons in a triangle formation which creates a nice balanced impression.
