Hetch Hetchy

photoblog-day-613.jpg

We picked a great hiking day at Hetch Hetchy. The temperature was perfect for hiking and we had great clouds for landscape photography. This image was created using one raw image and creating several layers which are all individually edited and with the help of masks put together again.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Frosty Morning at the Old Homestead

photoblog-day-612.jpg

Robert and I were on our way to Hetch Hetchy inside Yosemite National Park. We stopped at this old Homestead at around 6:30 AM. The ground was frosty and the early morning light created the opportunity for this image. Notice the rock on the bottom right side. I purposely integrated the rock as part of the composition because it created a nice sense of depth.

Enjoy and happy Friday

The Door

photoblog-day-611.jpg

This is the side door of the Cathedral  San Carlos de Borromeo de Monterey. I increased the saturation level on the image to bring out the structure as much as possible.Enjoy and happy photographing!

Windows

photoblog-day-610.jpg

This image was inspired by one of David’s pictures. He posted two lawn chairs on April 2nd on our blog and I liked the blue colors in combination with the green. While in Monterrey, CA I discovered the blue window frames and shades. I liked the blue gray contrast of the concrete wall and the reflection in the window. I created several different layers and interpretations of the same raw file and combined them in post production to create this image.

Enjoy and happy creating!

Amarillos

photoblog-day-609.jpg

My neighbor planted a row of Amarillos in her front yard. They started to bloom right before Easter and I got up early in the morning to photograph them. It took me a few shot with different f-stops to get the depth of field I had envisioned. The final image was created in post production using both Nik and Topaz plug-ins.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Briones Regional Park

photoblog-day-608.jpg

North of Hwy 24 and Walnut Creek and the San Francisco Bay lays Briones Regional Park. It is a very quiet park and most likely you will find cows and a few joggers on the hiking trails. during Winter and Spring the hills are covered by a lush green that turns yellow in the Summer.

Enjoy and rediscover hiking!

Natures Perfect Form

Oh no, the subject is centered and the photograph is square!

perfect-form-8966.jpg

While working in my yard I noticed this flower which seemed almost perfectly symmetrical. The standard 4×6 or 5×7 format just didn’t seem to fit and I liked it best breaking a cardinal rule, don’t center your subject. You may notice that the curls on the pedals seem to mimic one another as well.  I had to use extension tubes and f29 and a 1/2sec to get the depth I wanted. Hope  you like the outcome.

The Rose

With a lack of both wild flowers and time I decided to look a little closer to home.

the-rose-8755.jpg

The roses in my back yard have  large number of buds on them. However very few have bloomed yet. I spotted this one deep inside one of the bushier rose bushes. I used a telephoto lens set at 135mm with an extension tube to get close enough. The evening was heavily overcast with a mild wind so I upped the iso to 800 and shot this at f14 for depth of field at .3 seconds.

Azalea

photoblog-day-607.jpg

Two of my Azalea bushes are in full bloom. I got up at around 6:30 AM to photograph them. I used a 100-400mm lens on a C-sensor camera. Since there was no wind blowing this morning I used a higher f-stop to give me more depth of field. Camera setting: 400mm focal length, f11, 0.5sec. at ISO 100.

Enjoy and happy Easter

Cathedral Cat

photoblog-day-606.jpg

During my visit to Monterrey I used the opportunity to photograph the San Carlos cathedral, California’s oldest stone building.  I photograph churches wherever I go as part of my ongoing project. (You can see a few images at www.passionforphotos.com) . While walking outside I discovered this cat.  She was more than willing to pose for me and I got some really nice cat portraits.

Never miss an opportunity and happy photographing!
