Wheel Hub

Old wheels always catch my eye.

wheel-hub-9927.jpg

I shot a lot with my trusty 1.8 50mm lens when we went to Columbia. Using a fixed prime lens forces you to move, adjust and sometimes abandon a photo idea. I took this with an f-stop of 3.2,  not available on most zoom lenses unless you’re willing to pay a hefty price.

I converted it to sepia tone and some grain in Lightroom 3 and then added a FREE frame from OnOne software.

Hope you enjoy. And keep clicking.

A Light in Columbia

I literally laid on the floor to get this photograph.

I’m sure some of the tourists thought I was a little crazy,  Friedhelm of course understood. Notice not only the fixture but the subtle shadows and it even provided its own vignette. Came out pretty clear for handheld (faceheld) at 1/10 of a sec.

Carriage Wheel

photoblog-day-677.jpg

David and I found several carriages in a stable at Columbia State Park. When the sun is harsh and he light outside is not great for creating images I always try to find either shady spots o some indoor places. Many times I came home with some interesting images.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

St. Peter and Paul

I photographed St. Peter and Paul from Lombard Street in San Francisco. In the background you see the Oakland-Bay Bridge.

Thistle

While David and I were walking through Columbia, we discovered several dried-up thistles. This one was before a big rock, which created a nice contrast.

Columbia State Park

photoblog-day-678.jpg

David and I drove to Columbia State Park. We arrived in the late afternoon when all the stores where closing. We almost had the entire park for ourselves and had plenty of time to photograph the historic buildings. Just in case you did not know: “High Noon” was produced in this area.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

I shot this image six minutes before the administration closed the town. The light just  great and wished I could have stayed longer and photograph.

Beauty and the Beast

Someone once told me ‘just because it’s a flower doesn’t make it pretty’.

When I first saw these roses I liked the juxtaposition between the old withered flower and the very nice bud just behind it. I used my excellent 50mm 1.8 prime lens to control the  depth of field and focus. F2.8 at 1/50sec seemed to work well.

Friedhelm

Friedhelm and I were on a photo shoot when I took this candid shot of him.

I decided to post this one instead of the one where he’s sticking his tongue out at me. Now you can put a face behind all those wonderful photographs he posts.

Kiss the Bride

photoblog-day-675.jpg

The famous photographer Ruth Bernhard inspired me to photograph gummy bears. She photographed lifesavers in 1930. I decided to try something similar with gummy bears and I will share some more photographs on my other blog www.passionforphotos.com next week.

Enjoy and happy photographing!
