Yosemite Falls
31. August 2011 by Friedhelm.
We are proud to present Renate Stolte, a photographer and painter, as our guest blogger. Renate has a new exhibition at the Merced’s Rabo bank!
Being in Yosemite in the night of a full moon is always exciting, this time however, we had a moonbow at the bottom of the Upper Falls. The shot was taken around 11:40 pm.

Button on a String
30. August 2011 by Friedhelm.
I like the name of this South African plant that I photographed at the botanical garden in Berkeley, CA. It was important to me to create a photograph it in a way that shows both, the button and the string. As usual, I took several exposures and decided to keep this one.
Happy photographing!

Boys at the Lake
29. August 2011 by Friedhelm.
I was admiring the beautiful evening colors at Lake Yosemite when I discovered the two boys with their skateboards. I put the two trees into the upper right and the two boys into the lower left of the frame. This gives the images a nice depth of field.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Roof Lines
28. August 2011 by David.
If there’s a building around when I’m photographing I’ll probably take a photograph of the roof line.
This is from Cathedral San Carlos in Monterey. Notice how the two towers mimic one another against the clouds and sky. Also, the leading edge of the roof draws your eye back into the photo. A perfect day to take photographs looking up.

Cornfield Sunset
27. August 2011 by David.
While running errands the other day I came across this.
The next few months should provide for some wonderful sunsets as the weather changes from ‘just plain hot’ to more unsettled. Because I don’t want to leave my camera in my car’s hot trunk and it can be inconvenient to carry around I sometimes leave it at home. This time the errands were short and I’m glad I took it with me.

Creek Falls on Tioga Road
26. August 2011 by admin.

The wet spring created great waterfalls in Yosemite National Park. Many of the smaller falls were right beside the road. This one I found on my way home on Tioga Road (Hwy. 120). It was simply amazing!

When I came back from Lee Vining beginning of July I was disappointed as the sun was hiding behind clouds. I took some shots anyway and was surprised about the image with this beautiful sky.

Rhodocorna Arida
24. August 2011 by Friedhelm.
My recent trip to the botanical garden has inspired me. The good news is that you have more subjects that you can handle and they all don’t need to sign a model release. This plant is native to South Africa and I loved the shape of it.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Frazier Falls

On my latest trip during the summer I found Frazier Falls in Plumas National Forest. An easy walk for 1/2 mile into the forest via Frazier creek ended with this great Photo opportunity.

I photographed this flower at a botanical garden. I learned from a seasoned photographer that whenever you photograph flowers in a botanical garden you also photograph the little sign on the bottom of the flower with the name of the plant on it. What a great idea! I would have never remembered this name.
Enjoy ad happy photographing!
