California State Capitol

photoblog-day-716.jpg

This image went through several stages of processing. First, I created three different files out of the original camera raw files, one image under one over and the third normal exposed. Second, I used Photomatix pro to create an high dynamic range (HDR) file. Third, I used NIK Siver Efix pro to create the final image.

I loved the clouds over the building since the somehow reflect the current situation of money shortage everywhere. Will see how we handle the storm.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Mission Santa Clara

photoblog-day-715.jpg

Mission Santa Clara is part of the Silicon Valley. Today the Mission is part of a collage and the present building is not the original church. It is still beautiful to see and to photograph. I converted the image to balck and white to give it a little bit more a “historical” look.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Fountain at the Embarcadero

photoblog-day-714.jpg

The fountain was created by the Canadian Sculptor Armand Vaillancourt in 1971 and is located at the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco. Vaillancourt named it “Quebec libre” to support the freedom movement in his own town. You can read the history at  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armand_Vaillancourt.

Leaves and Spider Webs

photoblog-day-713.jpg

There are signs of fall everywhere. The light is changing constantly and gives the photographer to photograph ordinary subjects in a new way. I walked by these leaves all the time. Yesterday i saw the literally in a new light. I had to stop and photograph them.

Enjoy and keep on looking and clicking!

Sacramento River Bridge

photoblog-day-712.jpg

We visited “Old Town” Sacramento and walked along the Sacramento River. The later afternoon produced excellent light. I used three exposures which I combined in Photomatix pro to create this image.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

For Sale?

There are a number of old vehicles in Bodie.

used-vehicles-0772.jpg

I read somewhere that the car on the right is the most photographed item in Bodie. I myself have taken several shots of it.  Well, maybe more than several. This time I thought I’d take a little wider view of the area.

Gears

I took the opportunity to tour the old stamp mill in Bodie.

gears-1050.jpg

These gears sitting on a workbench caught my eye.  They were some of the smaller pieces of equipment.

The stamp mill pulverizes the ore (rocks) into a fine dust that the gold is then extracted from. The noise is extremely loud and the process very dangerous, both from the equipment and the chemicals used.

This was definitely a tripod shot at 1/15th of a second f5.6.

Slinky

photoblog-day-711.jpg

I was doing some product shots in my light tent when the Slinky, our new cat,  decided to move in. He liked the tent and the flash did not disturb him at all.

Happy Friday, enjoy and go photographing!

Tomatoes

photoblog-day-710.jpg

Product photography has it’s own challenges. The image has to entice the viewer to buy the product. The message is:”I want to have it!”

Enjoy and eat some fresh fruit and don’t forget to photograph!

Morning Glory

photoblog-day-709.jpg

I love to see the Morning Glory in late August and beginning September. I used my 85 mm portrait lens to create this image. The red and green colors are a nice contrast to the magnificent blue.

Enjoy and happy photographing!
