Christmas Orchid
31. December 2011 by David.
Not too many of my gifts were as photogenic as this orchid.
I hosted Christmas at my house this year, a rare occasion. My sister Annette brought me this orchid. I decided to photograph it with my Christmas tree as a background.

Bixby Bridge
30. December 2011 by Friedhelm.
The famous Bixby Bridge is located about 13 miles south of Carmel, CA. Famous photographers like Roman Loranc have photographed here and while I was photographing many other photographers were giving their cameras a work-out. I decided to emphasise the structure of the bridge by removing most of the colors.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

California Coast
29. December 2011 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this image south of Carmel, CA during the late afternoon. The light was beautiful and the waves were high. there was a nice breeze and about half an hour later the fog started to roll in.
Enjoy and keep on creating great images!

Backrest
28. December 2011 by Friedhelm.
I saw this old iron chair outside a store in Mariposa, CA. I wanted the backrest “emerge” in the background. I used a 50mm lens and started photographing starting with a wide open lens. Of all the images I took I liked this one with an aperture setting of f2.8.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Bridalveil Creek
27. December 2011 by Friedhelm.
There is no snow in Yosemite valley as of now but Bridalveil Creek is partially frozen. This creates the opportunity for some great shots. I used my 180mm prime lens to create this image. Looking at the lower right corner of the image I saw a picture in a picture, which I had to create.
Enjoy both and happy photographing!

New Life
26. December 2011 by Friedhelm.
I photographed these Milkweed seeds in Yosemite Valley. It is amazing to me how these seeds are carried by the wind and how they prepare themselves for a new blooming season.
I used a 180mm macro lens to create this image. I took several shot trying to find the right depth of field. I settled for f8, 0.3sec., ISO 100, tripod mounted.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Ornament
24. December 2011 by David.
I was playing with my light box, thinking about what would reflect bottom sourced light.
To create this image I used a extension tube attached to my 28-135mm lens and set the lens wide open at f36 to get as deep a depth of field as possible. I purposely used the background fabric to add some texture to the blank lower left and upper right. Now it goes back on the tree.

Magic Fountain
23. December 2011 by Friedhelm.
I wish everybody a Merry Christmas with an image I shot in January in Barcelona, Spain. This is the Magic Fountain at MontJuic where we saw magnificent light arrangements.
Enjoy and don’t forget to create many great images during the Holidays.

Sleeping
22. December 2011 by Friedhelm.
I was photographing in Yerba Buena Park in San Francisco. Several people were sleeping in the warm December afternoon sun. The light was actually not that great fro photography but when I saw the people walking by this sleeping gentleman I had to take the shot. I love the dynamic of this image. The resting guy in focus versus the walking people with the dog. The red hat just draws your eyes to the lower right side of the image.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!
