Hey,Look at Me!
25. July 2010 by David.
Friedhelm and I went to the Japanese Gardens at Woodward Park in Fresno Yesterday.
Along with some great water features, foliage and bridges was this fellow trying to impress the ladies. From our point of view he was impressing us more than the ladies that were wandering around. If you are in the area you have to visit this wonderful park. There are ample opportunities for the photographer and a nice place to relax. After looking at my photographs I’m sure I’ll be going back soon. There’s always a couple I could have done a better job with.

‘Tis the Season
23. July 2010 by David.
While the area around Chowchilla, Ca. is known for almonds and dairy there’s a lot more going on here than that.
The stone fruit season is in full swing and these peaches will soon be in a grocery store or canner. Hopefully in a couple of years I’ll be able to take this photograph in my own back yard. I planted a couple of fruit trees earlier in the year.

Protected Beauty
18. July 2010 by David.
I wonder how long this flower would last if it didn’t have the spines of the cactus to protect it. The cactus was huge and this was the only flower on it. Well off the ground and among a cluster of spiny cacti.

Reflections of Yosemite
16. July 2010 by David.
I haven’t been to Yosemite in a while and was looking through some of my past photographs…………
It takes a few seconds to recognize what this is. It’s a reflections of Sentinel Dome and a branch sticking out of the Merced River. While looking through the photos I asked myself ‘what in the world is this?’. Then decided it was kinda cool and I liked the way it made me study and analyze the photograph. Hope you enjoy. Don’t you just love photography!!

Hidden Flower
11. July 2010 by David.
I took a little walk around the local Post Office.
There are a number of flowering plants around the building and vehicle yard. Unfortunately it was getting late and the wind was blowing just enough to blur many of my shots. This flower was hidden deep within the plant and was courteous enough to stay still while I took the shot.

Window Closer
9. July 2010 by David.
As usual Friedhelm and I took different roads:
Friedhelms exercise for photographers this week (www.passionforphotos.com) was windows. I changed the windows in my house last year and found the old ones to be an intriguing subject. The bottom two closers remind me of fish swimming into the photograph, and I like the lines created by the various layers of window frames. I also used a lens I just acquired and was testing it’s sharpness, I’m very happy!

The Hook
4. July 2010 by David.
While walking around Mission San Juan Batista I came across this hook. If you’ve seen some of my photographs in the past you know I like this style, single items against a larger backdrop. I changed this to black and white to get rid of a slight color tint on the highlights of the metal. It was almost a black and white photograph from the beginning.

The Antenna
3. July 2010 by David.
I took this a couple of weeks ago. I like the simplicity of the lone antenna against the sky. I didn’t crop out the ever present power line to add some tension. I thought it almost looked like a fold in the photograph.

The Old Way
1. July 2010 by David.
Almost all of Mission San Juan Batista is authentic. If not the original, a faithful restoration.
I found the roof structure’s lines interesting and the almost white space of the wall a good compliment, especially with the leather straps intruding into the wall space.. Changing it to black and white added to the feeling of age. The leather straps used to hold the roof together and the beam turned on edge interested the carpenter in me. However, I left the fluorescent light fixture in to add a little juxtaposition between the old and new.

The flower
30. June 2010 by David.
While at the mission I wandered through their garden.
Very few plants were in bloom but I came across this one with a single blossom. I don’t know what it’s called but I found it very beautiful and had to take the shot. If anyone knows what this flower is please leave a comment. Thanks
