Little Bear
10. May 2012 by Friedhelm.
Little Bear was dumped in our neighborhood in the middle of the winter. She was about 8-10 weeks old when I found her and brought her home. She is now about 6 month old and full of energy and fun. I photographed her while she was on a discovery trip though my back yard. It was so much fun for her to play with the spider webs.
Enjoy and keep on photographing and being kind to animals!

Coral Aloe
9. May 2012 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this South African plant at the UC Botanical garden in Berkeley, CA. I used my 24-105mm lens at f4 To draw attention to the plant. The background needed to be blurred just enough to see the other blooming plants which create a beautiful contrast to the red colors of the Coral Aloe.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Dogwood at the Pohono Bridge
8. May 2012 by Friedhelm.
Coming from Merced on Hwy 140 into Yosemite Valley you cross over to the other side of the Merced River via the Pohono bridge. There are currently several dogwood tress blooming and in the later afternoon the light is just great.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Columbine
7. May 2012 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this columbine at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden last Saturday morning. I used my 180mm macro lens and and a fill-in flash to create this image. Camera and lens were mounted on a sturdy tripod and I attached a small flash unit via a six foot cable and PC-connector to my camera. Then I used the 10 second timer setting on my camera which gave me enough time to hold the flash about a foot away from the flower. Tale a look at the shadow and you will get an idea where the flash was coming from. I used several shots and flashed the flower from different directions. This is the images which I liked the most.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Moonrise in Yosemite Valley
4. May 2012 by Friedhelm.
The air in Yosemite National Park is so much cleaner than in the Central California Valley. This is obvious when one photographs the moon. I took more than one shot and I decided to post a second image. I shot both images with my 100-400 lens using a c-censor camera body and of course a tripod.
Enjoy both images and have a great week-end!

Dogwood above the Merced River
3. May 2012 by Friedhelm.
Yesterday afternoon I drove to Yosemite Valley to photograph the blooming dogwood trees. I read that the first dogwoods were blooming last Saturday and they are photographed at their best when the tree is blooming but the leaves are not developed yet. Thanks to my 100-400mm lens I was able to get some great shots using the Merced River as a backdrop.
Enjoy and keep on creating great images!

Harmony
1. May 2012 by Friedhelm.
Walking around the Japanese garden I picked up that there is a connection between the plants and the trees. I had the feeling that the rocks were perfectly organized and the trees were pruned in a certain way that rocks and trees portrait harmony.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Japanese Sign
30. April 2012 by Friedhelm.
I had the opportunity to photograph inside the Japanese Garden in Hayward, CA which is located southeast of Oakland, CA. The Garden is normally a quiet place where one can find peace. I noticed right away that the Garden would be a challenge to photograph if you want to go beyond shooting a few snapshots. I walked around it twice trying to soak in the spirit of the place and photograph in a way that reflects the essence of the place.
Enjoy this image and have a great week.

Amaryllis
27. April 2012 by Friedhelm.
Sometimes you will find great subjects right around your house. I discovered this amaryllis blooming in the front yard of one of my neighbors. Since it was overcast I could photograph it with basically no preparation using my 100-400mm lens that I carried with me on my daily exercise walk.
Enjoy and have a great week-end!
