Repetition

photoblog-day-773.jpg

San Francisco is full of beautiful buildings. I see a lot of creativity in many of them and I tried to capture it. I love the style and the repetition of these windows which I photographed from Yerba Buena Park.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Street Lights

Like many cities Chowchilla is trying to enhance it’s downtown.

Around the New Civic Center and a few other areas they added these retro style street lights.

TV Tower in Berlin, Germany

photoblog-day-753.jpg

I photographed the TV Tower in Berlin at sunset. The tower is the fourth tallest tower in Europe (1,207 feet) and is actually built during the communist time in former East Berlin.

Kearney Mansion

Kearney Mansion is the centerpiece of Kearney Park near Fresno Ca.

kearney-mansion-1972.jpg

This was taken about 20 minutes after the ‘battle’ from the ‘Civil War Revisited’ had ended. Notice how the smoke from the canon and rifle fire still hung in the air. The tents in the front are from the reinactors and information booths. Notice how the spires of the booths mimic the spires on the mansion itself.

California State Capitol

photoblog-day-716.jpg

This image went through several stages of processing. First, I created three different files out of the original camera raw files, one image under one over and the third normal exposed. Second, I used Photomatix pro to create an high dynamic range (HDR) file. Third, I used NIK Siver Efix pro to create the final image.

I loved the clouds over the building since the somehow reflect the current situation of money shortage everywhere. Will see how we handle the storm.

Roof Lines

If there’s a building around when I’m photographing I’ll probably take a photograph of the roof line.

This is from Cathedral San Carlos in Monterey. Notice how the two towers mimic one another against the clouds and sky. Also, the leading edge of the roof draws your eye back into the photo. A perfect day to take photographs looking up.

River of Life

The metal door hardware is what first caught my eye.

cathederal-door-0224.jpg

Then I noticed all the various textures and nuances. A long time ago I was told that the wavy lines you see on mission doors represented the ‘River of Life’ to the local Indians. They were put there to show the Indians that the ‘River of Life’ could be found within the walls of the church. Not sure if that’s true but I like the ‘River of Life’ idea.

Candle in a Window

Friedhelm and I visited the coast the other day.

candle-in-window-0254.jpg

While there we visited the Cathedral San Carlos. It is the oldest continuously functioning church and the first stone building in California. It was the cornerstone of Farther Junipero Serra’s mission until he moved to Carmel.

The lines of course caught my eye. How they lead you to the candle and holder. But the simple elegance of the holder is a significant part of what I like about this photograph.

A Light in Columbia

I literally laid on the floor to get this photograph.

columbia-light-9907.jpg

I’m sure some of the tourists thought I was a little crazy,  Friedhelm of course understood. Notice not only the fixture but the subtle shadows and it even provided its own vignette. Came out pretty clear for handheld (faceheld) at 1/10 of a sec.

St. Peter and Paul

photoblog-day-681.jpg

I photographed St. Peter and Paul from Lombard Street in San Francisco. In the background you see the Oakland-Bay Bridge.
