The Central Coast
19. February 2011 by David.
Thought I’d share a somewhat classic photo of the California Coast.
As I’ve said before I’m not a beach person. This is my kind of California Coastline, lots of rocks, crashing waves etc. This was taken at Point Lobos State Park, not very far from the parking lot. The only problem with this type of coastline is the waves can sometimes fool you. I learned that a couple of hours after this photo was taken. Camera’s fine though.

Tower and Fountain
13. February 2011 by David.
Mission Carmel is a great place to spend a few hours,
While walking in the courtyard I noticed the similarities between the fountain and the tower behind it. What caught my eye was the various levels and I like the roof lines crossing behind the fountain and in front of the tower. The cloudless sky adds a bit of relief from what is a very busy photograph.

I’ll be right there!
12. February 2011 by David.
In the spring and summer the courtyard of San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo Mission is alive with color.
It’s still a little early this year but I did get a promise of things to come. I figure in another month or so the courtyard will be in full bloom.

A Painter and his Subject
18. January 2011 by Friedhelm.
Carmel, CA great. The sun was shining and we were able to eat lunch outside. Walking through the streets I saw this painter painting painting this restaurant. It was a perfect opportunity to create this image.
Enjoy!

Carmel by the Sea at Night
2. December 2010 by Friedhelm.
I was lucky. For a moment there was no foot traffic on this brick pathway and I was able to get this image. If you have never been to Carmel, CA, visit it. It is a remarkable little town with great boutiques and art galleries. There a re some great restaurants as well and you will enjoy the incredibly white sand at the beach.
Enjoy and happy photographing!

Coastel Rock
10. September 2010 by Friedhelm.
Ever since I studied “rock” photography I am on the look-out for interesting rock formations. I found these rocks right at the famous 17 mile drive. camera setting: 200mm focal length, f11, 160 sec., ISO 100, tripod mounted.
Enjoy and have a great week-end!

A Walkway of the Past
9. April 2010 by David.
If you go to the Carmel area be sure and visit the Mission there. It has been beautifully restored and a wonderful link to California’s past. The lines and earth tones of this walkway caught my eye. Even the plain wall on the right has some interesting features including doors and benches while the columns and rafters add to the depth of the photograph.
F6.3 @ 1/15 sec, 28mm, ISO250, tripod mounted.

Spring Bird
12. March 2010 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this bird yesterday on my daily exercise walk. I saw the bird first sitting on the fountain with a truck in the background. I decided to take my chances and walked around the bird until I found a contrasty natural background. One of my photography teachers always told me that the first consideration for a great image is the background. I follow his advice and I got rewarded with many great shots. Camera setting: focal length 200mm, f5.0, 1/800sec., ISO 200.
Enjoy and have a great day!

Driftwood and it’s shadow
4. January 2010 by Friedhelm.
I love to photograph with my super wide angle lens. To create this image I had to hold the camera almost to the ground and shoot upwards. Notice the shadow that I incorporated into the composition. Camera setting: f8, 1/500sec., ISO 100.
Have a great time with images and enjoy photography!

After the sunset
31. December 2009 by Friedhelm.
Yesterday I was photographing in and around Carmel, CA. Like Yosemite National Park the California Coast is always fascinating. Great photographers, like Ansel Adams in Yosemite and Edward Weston on the coast, have created here their images. It is a great privilege to see and photograph the places where they have worked.
I photographed this image last night after the sunset. The deep red colors in contrast to the blue ocean and clouds intrigued me. I used a 200mm lens. My camera setting: f16, 1/4sec., ISO 400.
Enjoy and have a happy New Year!
