Almond Blossom-Plus
4. March 2012 by David.
If you live in the valley you know what an almond blossom looks like.
You also know that the background should not be a dark green. No I did not Photo Shop this in.
This is a unique tree, it’s actually surrounded by a bush. So when the spring blossoms come they provide a stark contrast to dark green of the bush. And as a plus we have the wonderful lines of the bushes leaves. I walked a whole two blocks to get this photo. Boy am I tired.

A Promise of Yum
3. March 2012 by David.
The peach tree in my back yard is blooming.
Last year I had some great peaches, this will be the trees 3rd year and I even pruned it this year. Looking for a bountiful harvest.
If you look closely at the top of the bloom you can see a little morning dew. Hope you have a bountiful year.

Silhouette at Sunset
26. February 2012 by David.
Last weekend Friedhelm and I stopped at Lake Yosemite.
Even though it was still some time before sunset and it was quite bright I was able to get this silhouette of this tree against the lake and sky. Well, shooting at 1/2000 of a second at f8 does give you some creative options.

The Spinner
25. February 2012 by David.
While Friedhelm continued to photograph around the old house I took a look at some of the machinery near by.
This is called a ’spinner’. It’s used to allow someone to steer a vehicle using only one hand, necessary in farming, illegal in most cases on the street. The mottled background is the remnants of an old foam rubber seat which adds some wonderful texture.

Life of Riley
19. February 2012 by David.
I’m sure living at the zoo isn’t the greatest life.
When I took this photograph this kangaroo didn’t seem to mind. I walked around quite a bit and I don’t think this kangaroo moved a single inch or muscle.

Sun Worshipper
18. February 2012 by David.
What does a seal do in the dead of winter.
Sun themselves on the unseasonably warm February day. This fellow is going to have a new much larger home this summer. Maybe he was dreaming about that.

Hawk
16. February 2012 by Friedhelm.
I took my usual walk with my dog around Rahilly Park in Merced when I saw this hawk sitting in a tree. Luckily, this day I took my heavy 100-400mm lens with me so I was able to photograph this wonderful bird which was observing us closely. The hawk gave me all the time I needed to adjust the camera setting and posed for this shot.
Enjoy and have your gear ready at all times!

Another Show-off
11. February 2012 by David.
Many of the animals at the zoo where somewhat shy, not this one.
Just like people some animals like all the attention and some don’t. I think most of the ones in the zoo just tolerated people because they had to.

Buy a Zebra
5. February 2012 by David.
If you like lines in your photos like I do the answer is to buy a Zebra.
Or at least visit them at the zoo.
The problem with animals is they move. The other problem is they don’t. I had to be very patient with this zebra as it walked around finally getting the right angle and a bonus of the lined shadows as a background.

UC Merced
1. February 2012 by Friedhelm.
After a rainstorm I went out and photographed UC Merced. The yellow buildings on the left are student housing and the buildings on the right are the library and classrooms.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!
