City of Quedlinburg

photoblog-day-758.jpg

Quedlinburg is a very nice medieval town at the north rim of the Harz mountains in northern Germany. There is an old Romanesque church and fortress on a hill from which I shot this image.

Happy Thanksgiving

photoblog-day-755.jpg

I photographed these pumpkins in Carmel, CA. The image is HDR edited which may look a little bit surreal for some.

Enjoy and have a great time! Don’t forget to photograph!

Robert W.

I attended the annual Veterans Day Memorial Service in Chowchilla yesterday.

robert-11-11-11-2201.jpg

I focused on Robert, a friend of mine, member of the photo club and most importantly a veteran. He, members of the VFW and American Legion were the color guard at the memorial. No matter your politics you must give all members of the armed services their due. They go and have gone into harms way so we have the most imperfect and yet perfect form of government.

Young Gunner

I met this young man at the Civil War Revisited

young-gunner-1826.jpg

He struck this pose without being asked and was quite informative.  It reminded me of what you see in photos from the era. He’s probably about the right age for those that fought in the war, as with most wars.

I changed this to sepia tone and added some grain to give it more of an older feel. I really hated to do this because the original was so sharp. Oh well…..

Decay

photoblog-day-732.jpg

This is an old door with an opening for mail. It looks like the door hasn’t been painted for years. The paint is peeling and it is fallen apart.

I have a hard time creating images like this because I like to look out for beauty but an image like this is a reminder to take good care of your property and even more important of your body.

Nine-Eleven

photoblog-day-701.jpg

This image is the result of yesterday’s Photo Club meeting. We were sitting together to create an image that represents our feelings about Nine-Eleven. We picked two boots as a symbol of the Twin Towers and as a symbol of America. We built a circle of shoes around the towers and then photographed them. I closed my lens down to f22 giving me a 20 second exposure time and then I changed the focal length during the 20 seconds exposure time creating this image.  It represents the destruction and the effect 9-11 had on all of us.

On this week-end we think about the victims and hope that this will never happen again!

I also like to thank the members of the Chowchilla Photo Club for their creative ideas, lively discussion and input to create this image!

Counter Seats

A little bit of Americana.

counter-seats2-0241.jpg

After visiting the Mission San Juan Batista Friedhelm and I had lunch at a little cafe’.  I actually stole this shot from Friedhelm. He was facing the other way and took a shot towards the door while mine is towards the back of the cafe’. Since he didn’t post his, all is fair…………..

River of Life

The metal door hardware is what first caught my eye.

cathederal-door-0224.jpg

Then I noticed all the various textures and nuances. A long time ago I was told that the wavy lines you see on mission doors represented the ‘River of Life’ to the local Indians. They were put there to show the Indians that the ‘River of Life’ could be found within the walls of the church. Not sure if that’s true but I like the ‘River of Life’ idea.

Fireworks

photoblog-day-661.jpg

Fireworks is always fun to photograph. I used my 100-400 mm lens on my C-sensor camera to create this image. In order to get some motion blur I used a slow shutter speed and mounted the camera on a tripod.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Memorial Day

photoblog-day-634.jpg

I photographed this grave stone in Boston, MA. I cropped the image making the viewer wonder. I think this is part of Memorial Day that we miss the ones who sacrificed their lives. I hope for a world without wars, violence and crime and wonder if we will see it one day.
