The Poppies Were Closed

Hite Cove on the South Merced River is at it’s best right now.

the-poppies-were-closed-4944.jpg

The day was overcast so the poppies were a little shy. They did however provide a great backdrop to the other wildflowers. If you can make the time I suggest you get on up there as soon as possible. The show is great but won’t last long.

Early Morning Dandelion

photoblog-day-854.jpg

I went outside early this morning to photograph some of my Dandelions that are growing on my front lawn. I used a 180mm macro lens and a sturdy tripod to get this image.

Enjoy and have a great week full of imagination and creativity!

Fiddlenecks and Fence

photoblog-day-847.jpg

During our last stop on the Fresno County Wildflower Trail I photographed Fiddlenecks again. This time I had the camera on the ground using the sky and the fence as a backdrop. I like to see man-made and natural lines in an image. It is a nice contrast and inspires me to think.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Fiddleneck

photoblog-day-844.jpg

As David mentioned yesterday we drove along the Fresno county Wildflower Trail (you may click on the link:  http://www.gofresnocounty.com/WildflowerTrail.asp.) Our first stop was on Watts Valley Rd. where David photographed yesterday’s image. I decided to photograph a group of Fiddleneck flowers on the side of the road using my 180mm macro lens and a tripod.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Snag, Fence and Flowers

Yesterday Friedhelm and I followed Fresno’s White Flower Trail.

While we both agreed that the ‘white flowers’ were rather disappointing we did find other subjects for both our photographic styles. This was taken at our first stop. I trudged back to get this shot, Friedhelm stay closer to the car and worked on close-ups. Yup, we see different things standing in the same spot.

Drops on an Iris

photoblog-day-835.jpg

In used a strobe light with a barn door and my 180mm macro lens to create this image. The barn door helps tremendously to control the light which comes from below and behind the Iris leaf. I don’t think I have to mention that this shot would have been almost impossible without a sturdy tripod.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Almond Blossom-Plus

If you live in the valley you know what an almond blossom looks like.

You also know that the background should not be a dark green.  No I did not Photo Shop this in.

This is a unique tree, it’s actually surrounded by a bush. So when the spring blossoms come they provide a stark contrast to  dark green of the bush. And as a plus we have the wonderful lines of the bushes leaves. I walked a whole two blocks to get this photo. Boy am I tired.

A Promise of Yum

The peach tree in my back yard is blooming.

promise-of-yum-4280.jpg

Last year I had some great peaches, this will be the trees 3rd year and I even pruned it this year. Looking for a bountiful harvest.

If you look closely at the top of the bloom you can see a little morning dew.  Hope you have a bountiful year.

Hydrangea Serrata

photoblog-day-809.jpg

Photographing flowers outside can be very challenging. When you are in a botanical garden you are restricted to the pathways and you are not allowed to use any photographic accessories inside the flower beds. That is fine with me since I want future generations to enjoy these plants as well, but it can be still a challenge. The second challenge is people, especially when you are photographing on a narrow path and they have to walk around you and your camera tripod. The third challenge is wind. Since there was a light breeze I had to crank up my ISO setting and I took several shot to make sure I got a clear image.

Enjoy this beautiful flower from Japan and keep on photographing!

First Sign of Spring

photoblog-day-802.jpg

I sued a 135mm prime lens at f2.8 to create this image. While I was at Lake Yosemite I discovered that these little flowers were already blooming and I decided to photograph them in the morning sun. I used the lens wide open because I wanted just one flower to stand out and the others supporting the “hero.”

Enjoy and have a great week-end!
