Railcars without Rails
31. March 2012 by David.
I saw these two railcars in a field many miles from any rails.
I suspect that these old railcars are meant to be used as bridges over a creek somewhere. I’ve seen them used that way before. I purposely limited the depth of field to give the appearance of distance, coming from blur into focus and quickly blurring again. The lines are not ‘clean’, being broken and uneven but they still lead you through the photograph and appear to converge at the apex.

Fiddlenecks and Fence
29. March 2012 by Friedhelm.
During our last stop on the Fresno County Wildflower Trail I photographed Fiddlenecks again. This time I had the camera on the ground using the sky and the fence as a backdrop. I like to see man-made and natural lines in an image. It is a nice contrast and inspires me to think.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Fiddleneck
26. March 2012 by Friedhelm.
As David mentioned yesterday we drove along the Fresno county Wildflower Trail (you may click on the link: http://www.gofresnocounty.com/WildflowerTrail.asp.) Our first stop was on Watts Valley Rd. where David photographed yesterday’s image. I decided to photograph a group of Fiddleneck flowers on the side of the road using my 180mm macro lens and a tripod.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Snag, Fence and Flowers
25. March 2012 by David.
Yesterday Friedhelm and I followed Fresno’s White Flower Trail.
While we both agreed that the ‘white flowers’ were rather disappointing we did find other subjects for both our photographic styles. This was taken at our first stop. I trudged back to get this shot, Friedhelm stay closer to the car and worked on close-ups. Yup, we see different things standing in the same spot.

Winter in Mariposa County
21. March 2012 by Friedhelm.
Since the snow storm was coming into Yosemite Valley we decided to drive home to avoid the heavy snow fall. Around sunset we drove through the foothills which are not very often covered by snow. I snapped this image on Hwy 140 right outside Mariposa, CA.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

7. March 2012 by Friedhelm.
Hornitos, CA is a place where time stands still. It is a place where 15,000 people used to live and today there are just a few houses left. The place has it’s own charm. When I drove up to Hornitos it was raining and when I arrived the light was just beautiful giving me the opportunity for some great images.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Rocks
5. March 2012 by Friedhelm.
My first independent photo study was “rocks” and I still go back to that assignment and photograph them. Each time I see something different that fascinates me. These rocks were photographed yesterday (March 4, 2012) at the Merced River Canyon.
Enjoy and have a great photographic week.

Clouds on Highway 140
29. February 2012 by Friedhelm.
I drove a little bit out of town into the foothills on Highway 140 when I discovered the clouds at sunset. My plan was to photograph rocks and Spring flowers. My plan changed when I saw the clouds and the sunset.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Wheel and Walk
29. January 2012 by David.
As usual I was concentrating on a shot looking the other way when I turned around and this caught my eye.
I like how the tree horizontal layers are interrupted by the wheel and how the wheel ties all three layers together.

On a Different Post
28. January 2012 by David.
Last week I posted a photo of a structural post a Railtown 1897
For me Railtown 1897 was a treasure trove of photographic opportunities. I thought about converting this image to black and white but I like the subtle colors of the wood. Once again this state park is going to close this year. If you want to go, go soon. Better yet join the California State Parks Foundation and help the fight to keep these (our) treasures open. There are 70 yes 70 state parks set for closure.
