The Witch

photoblog-day-357.jpg

I purchased this doll a few years ago in the Harz mountains of Northern Germany. I photographed her using a light tent, using two continuous daylight light bulbs and a black background. In order to get the special effect (ghosting), I picked a 4 second exposure time (f29 aperture) and I changed the focal length slowly from 200mm to about 135mm. Of course I change the auto-focus to manual, pre-focused and I used a heavy tripod.

Enjoy!

Theater of Electricity - Impressions of Boston part 04

photoblog-day-346.jpg

The weather in Boston can change rather quickly. When it started to rain we visited the Museum of Science. I was interested in the “Electricity Show” to photograph the electric discharges. Camera setting: f7.1, 6sec., ISO 400.

Enjoy!

Dancing!

photoblog-day-314.jpg

I had the opportunity to photograph at a dress rehearsal. The light was extremely dark so I had to set my ISO as high as possible. I was still able to get some decent shots, like this one. Camera setting: Focal length 60mm, f4, 1/100sec., ISO 6400.

Enjoy and have a great week!

Reach the stars!

The difference between a portrait and a fashion shot is that in a portrait you want to show the person. In fashion shot like in any other product shot you want to show the product. This is more a fashion shot than a portrait. The jeans are really popping out. The message is: you can do anything with these jeans!. Watch also the position of the feet. They are in an almost 90 degree angle. The arms are almost in a 45 degree angle. Al this supports the overall structure of the image.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Got water and a camera?

photoblog-day-286.jpg

I experimented with water by plashing water on concrete.  There was a building to my left and a large tree to my right. It was overcast and I photographed the”whole mess”. It turned out better than I thought.

Have fun with photography!

Shooting Water Bottle

Once again I was inspired by a video on uTube featuring Gavin Hoey.

bottle-blast.jpg

I won’t tell you how I got water to shoot out of a bottle. I will tell you that a friend of mine, Teri Seale, lent me a really cool bottle with four parts that allowed me to get two different colors of water, and Teri, I didn’t break the bottle, Thanks a lot.

I used two stobes to wash out the background and one to highlight the bottle. Manual focus at 1/200 to sync the flash, f14, at 75mm. Don’t forget the large bucket and towel.

Candle Smoke

Several months ago our photo club had a monthly theme of candles. My idea was to photograph candle smoke. Most candles don’t give off much smoke!

candle-smoke.jpg

After recently seeing a u-tube video by Gavin Hoey I decided to give it another try. The key, use incense, and some lighting techniques. Nothing too difficult.  This isn’t a composite, I just dug a hole in the candle and put the incense inside.

Manual mode, handheld, 1/200sec, f11, ISO 200 with single strobe.

Creating a puzzle

photoblog-day-228.jpg

This is another exercise I am considering for my new Photoshop Class in February. I photographed these boys on Halloween using the beautiful colored sunset as my back drop.

Enjoy!

Phoolin around with images

I am preparing a new Photoshop Boot camp. I am creating several exercises and I hope I have everything ready by January 2009. We will create compositions, working with layers and having quite some fun. Enjoy this creation!

Christmas Lights

blogchristmas-lights.jpg

While setting up our Photo Clubs annual Christmas Photo Shoot I was testing the flash sync to make sure it worked ok. I had to make a few adjustments and when I looked at my test shots this one caught my eye. For some reason the camera data does not show the shutter speed but I would guess it was a couple of seconds, F11 at ISO 200, definitely not tripod mounted.
