Water Sculpture

photoblog-day-766.jpg

It is always fun to freeze a moment in history. I tried to photograph water droplets as they were falling into a blue glass bowl. After a while I got a few nice images. Enjoy this one!

Happy Friday and keep on photographing!

Droste Effect

I’m not one for major photo manipulation, but I think this is just cool.

droste-yellow-flower-1317.jpg

This is called the Droste Effect and is a plugin filter for Photo Shop. I saw it on the web and just had to try and copy it. The web video was about 7 min long. It took me just a tag longer, yes that was sarcasm. I tried several different items, this flower and a clock worked very well. Some stuff just turned out bad.

Learned that if I do much more of this I’m going to need a faster graphics card. Any suggestions?

Classic Roast

This is one of those photographs were it takes a moment to recognize what you’re looking at.

Even after you read the words you have to take a step back and look at the whole photograph to realize this is an old coffee can.

Kiss the Bride

photoblog-day-675.jpg

The famous photographer Ruth Bernhard inspired me to photograph gummy bears. She photographed lifesavers in 1930. I decided to try something similar with gummy bears and I will share some more photographs on my other blog www.passionforphotos.com next week.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Graffiti in China Town

photoblog-day-666.jpg

I like to look at Graffiti and photograph it. Many times those images contain a hidden truth.

This piece of art I photographed in China Town in San Francisco. Enjoy and keep the camera busy!

Green Eyes Wine

Not sure how good a wine this is but I find the label kinda creepy.

wine-eyes-9632.jpg

This was taken at a wedding I recently attended. Having four sets of the same eyes peaking out over the ice and following where ever you go was kind of a weird feeling, so of course I photographed it. With the four main subjects this is a very busy photograph. Your eyes keep jumping from bottle to bottle, then taking in the texture of the ice and then…………..

Crayons

photoblog-day-640.jpg

Sometimes little objects can become great subjects in a composition. I had a little bit of time to “play” with these crayons. I arranged and photographed them from different angles. My background was a hedge which I threw out of focus by opening the lens up. This is a very simple composition but it works for me. I like the photograph.

Enjoy and keep on thinking about images and compositions!

Burma Shave

I took a little walk around Chowchilla this morning.

burma-shave-9408.jpg

Passing a truly old fashioned barber shop I came upon these shaving mugs in the window. I don’t know if they use these anymore but I can remember my dad buying me my first shaving mug and brush. Yes, I’m that old and I think I still have the brush and razor somewhere.  This photograph actually brought back some very fond memories of growing up. Maybe a great tribute to the “Memorial Day” weekend. Stay safe.

Bear Valley Crystals

While at a ‘antique’ store in Bear Valley I spotted these crystals.

chrystals-9321.jpg

It would have been nice if they’d polished them before I arrived but then I didn’t call ahead. This was actually a somewhat frustrating shot. The wind was lightly blowing and the crystals constantly spinning.  I took several shots before I shot this one with a decent background, and a couple of focused crystals.  Hope you’re having a good day and get out there and………

Old Tractor

I tried something a little different with this photo.

tractor-8148.jpg

Photo Shop and Lightroom give you a lot of options for adjusting a photograph. With this photo I decided to try a few of them out. I gave the edges a little vignette, then using masks and layers I converted the tractor to black and white. In color it looked out of place for some reason. I also toned down the brightness on the tractor and blurred the background a little more. Using a free program from NIK software I added the rough edged border.
