Looking for Light

photoblog-day-882.jpg

Yesterday I was walking along the bike path looking for something interesting to photograph. There are some thick bushes and trees creating a lot of shadows. Some of the areas are really dark and just a little bit of light was shining through. This place caught my eye. One of my photography instructors once said that the human eye always looks for the lightest spot in an image even if it is very small. This is certainly true for me.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

California Poppies

photoblog-day-866.jpg

I created this image with the help of my 180mm macro lens. I used the poppies as subject and background at the same time. In addition I used a lot of negative space to create a contrast to the orange colored poppies.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Moth on a Dandelion

photoblog-day-860.jpg

I was doing some yard work when I discovered this moth on a Dandelion. I rushed inside to get my camera, 180mm macro lens and a gobo to block out the bright sun. I took several shots since the moth was very patient with me. This one I liked.

Enjoy and always have a camera handy because an opportunity for a great shot can come up any time!

Early Morning Dandelion

photoblog-day-854.jpg

I went outside early this morning to photograph some of my Dandelions that are growing on my front lawn. I used a 180mm macro lens and a sturdy tripod to get this image.

Enjoy and have a great week full of imagination and creativity!

Drops on an Iris

photoblog-day-835.jpg

In used a strobe light with a barn door and my 180mm macro lens to create this image. The barn door helps tremendously to control the light which comes from below and behind the Iris leaf. I don’t think I have to mention that this shot would have been almost impossible without a sturdy tripod.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Peach Blossom

photoblog-day-834.jpg

It was pretty windy in central California the last few days. I was pretty happy to get this shot while it was reasonable calm outside since I did not want to cut off a branch and photograph it in the studio.

I used a 180mm macro lens which I love to photograph with. Enjoy and have a great photographic day!

Blossoms

photoblog-day-829.jpg

For the last couple weeks I photographed blooming trees. Yesterday I went over all my images and created this 20X30 composition which will look awesome as a print.

Enjoy and keep on creating great images!

Nail and Spider Web

photoblog-day-822.jpg

One more image from the abandoned house. I was looking for subjects for my 180mm macro lens when I discovered this nail. In the beginning I totally overlooked the spider web around it. It always pays to look twice to discover something interesting.

Enjoy and have a great week-end

The Nail

David and I went to photograph an abandoned house. I created this image using my 180mm macro lens mounted on a tripod.

Enjoy and have a great creative week!

Onion Peel

photoblog-day-813.jpg

I discovered this onion peel in the kitchen and decided to photograph it. Originally I had a black and white image in my mind but I decided to keep the color version. I used a single strobe light and a reflector to balance the light.

What kind of emotions does this image create in the viewer? It somehow reminds me of an antique vase. Enjoy and keep on photographing!
