Best Friends

photoblog-day-887.jpg

I had the opportunity to photograph this lady and her dog. I just love the composition in this image. Her eyes are in the upper right and my eyes move automatically in that direction. Using a wide open lens blurred the background (lawn) nicely.

Enjoy and keep on photographing.

Friends

photoblog-day-881.jpg

The legendary portrait and wedding photographer Monte Zucker posed many people forming a “V” shape with their noses. You can see many of these wonderful portraits by going to Monte’s website http://montezucker.com/portfolio.html. In this image the two dogs did this on their own. I just had to press the shutter on my camera.

By the way, I shot this image in Carmel, CA.  Carmel is a very dog friendly town. You will find bowls filled with water in front of many stores. I was told that this is the result of Doris Day’s effort who is living in Carmel.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Having Fun

photoblog-day-880.jpg

I was working on some macro shots in my backyard this morning when I discovered that Little Bear, our six month old cat was playing in the water fountain. I took a bunch of shots and gave her a bath inside. She did not like that at all!

Always be ready to photograph something totally unexpected!

Slinky

photoblog-day-855.jpg

When we adopted Slinky he was malnutritioned and he had skin problems. A shot at the doctor’s office took care of the skin disease and he gained quite some weight since he eats a lot. Easter Sunday we had a lot of people at our house and Slinky was totally afraid and went into hiding. I wonder what had happened to him before he came to us that he suddenly acted that way. I probably will never understand why people hurt and abandon animals like Slinky. He has given us so much joy!

Enjoy the image and keep on photographing!

Puppy

photoblog-day-799.jpg

The great portrait photographer Richard Avedon photographed many people against a white background. I did this with a young puppy. I let the dog run around and waited for the right time to get the image. Even if this is a tight head shot, I asked the owner to take the collar of since a collar many times looks like a choke chain in an animal portrait.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Slinky

photoblog-day-711.jpg

I was doing some product shots in my light tent when the Slinky, our new cat,  decided to move in. He liked the tent and the flash did not disturb him at all.

Happy Friday, enjoy and go photographing!

Hoping

photoblog-day-700.jpg

I photographed this young cat yesterday. He/she is living on the street and hopes for a new home. Maybe you know someone in the Merced area who would adopt this pretty animal.

On the technical side: I used my 85mm portrait lens at f2.8 focusing on the cats face. Enjoy and happy photographing!

Abandoned, Hungry and Hunted

photoblog-day-602.jpg

We live a block away from the bike path and Rahilly creek. Some people are unbelievable cruel to their pets by abandoning them there and there are people that take their dogs and let them chase the cats despite the Merced leash law for dogs. Sometimes I ask myself how cruel we human beings can become. On the other side I know people that care for these creatures, feed them and protect them. I am very thankful for that. Currently I am looking for a way to have as many as possible fixed. Will see how that goes.

I photographed this family of eight young cats that somehow sticks together. I hope to find a good home for them.

Have a great week-end!

The Cat

photoblog-day-548.jpg

While I was studying photography several of my teachers told us to watch out for the background. The background can make or break an image. I was experimenting with layer mask and different backgrounds and this is the result. Enjoy and happy photographing!

Hungry

photoblog-day-511.jpg

There is this group of nine homeless cats that I feed on my exercise walk. All of them are very young since these cats have a low life expectancy. They are surprisingly friendly towards people because their friendliness can cause them their lives if caught by the wrong people. I wish people would take care of their animals and not abandon them to a cruel life on the street. By the way, they are all very pretty.

Have a great week and happy photographing!
