Puppy
24. January 2012 by Friedhelm.
The great portrait photographer Richard Avedon photographed many people against a white background. I did this with a young puppy. I let the dog run around and waited for the right time to get the image. Even if this is a tight head shot, I asked the owner to take the collar of since a collar many times looks like a choke chain in an animal portrait.
Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Slinky
23. September 2011 by Friedhelm.
I was doing some product shots in my light tent when the Slinky, our new cat, decided to move in. He liked the tent and the flash did not disturb him at all.
Happy Friday, enjoy and go photographing!

Hoping
8. September 2011 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this young cat yesterday. He/she is living on the street and hopes for a new home. Maybe you know someone in the Merced area who would adopt this pretty animal.
On the technical side: I used my 85mm portrait lens at f2.8 focusing on the cats face. Enjoy and happy photographing!

Abandoned, Hungry and Hunted
15. April 2011 by Friedhelm.
We live a block away from the bike path and Rahilly creek. Some people are unbelievable cruel to their pets by abandoning them there and there are people that take their dogs and let them chase the cats despite the Merced leash law for dogs. Sometimes I ask myself how cruel we human beings can become. On the other side I know people that care for these creatures, feed them and protect them. I am very thankful for that. Currently I am looking for a way to have as many as possible fixed. Will see how that goes.
I photographed this family of eight young cats that somehow sticks together. I hope to find a good home for them.
Have a great week-end!

The Cat
3. February 2011 by Friedhelm.
While I was studying photography several of my teachers told us to watch out for the background. The background can make or break an image. I was experimenting with layer mask and different backgrounds and this is the result. Enjoy and happy photographing!

Hungry
13. December 2010 by Friedhelm.
There is this group of nine homeless cats that I feed on my exercise walk. All of them are very young since these cats have a low life expectancy. They are surprisingly friendly towards people because their friendliness can cause them their lives if caught by the wrong people. I wish people would take care of their animals and not abandon them to a cruel life on the street. By the way, they are all very pretty.
Have a great week and happy photographing!

Looking for a Home
23. November 2010 by Friedhelm.
Is’nt this cat beautiful? She is one of the young stray cats living in park looking for a home. This cat is very social. She loves to be pet and is not shy of people like the many other stray cats. I hope I can find a good home for her. In order to create this image I used an 85mm portrait lens at f2.8. You see only her face in focus.
Enjoy this image and treat your pets with love and care. Happy photographing!

Homeless
22. October 2010 by Friedhelm.
I photographed this young homeless cat on my exercise walk. In the beginning she was camera shy but after a while she let me photograph her and she even posed for me. I wish I would be able to find a good home for her. Camera setting: 50mm prime lens, f2.8, 1/50sec., ISO 400 hand held.
Happy photographing!

Being relaxed
8. June 2010 by Friedhelm.
Our cat was sleeping on a towel on my bed. I had window light from the left so I decided to use my 500mm prime lens to get this shot. Camera setting: f 8, 2.5sec., ISO 100 tripod mounted.
Enjoy and have a relaxed day!

I trust my nose
27. April 2010 by Friedhelm.
When we shot portraits we always make sure that we focus on the eyes because usually eyes make or break a portrait. In this image I focused on the nose implying the message that for a dog the nose is more important than the eyes. Camera setting: f4, 1/800sec., ISO 100.
Enjoy!
Thank you all for giving our second photographic exercise blog such a good start. Take a look at www.passionforphotos.com and start doing the exercises. you will get a lot out of them.
