Looking for a Home

photoblog-day-498.jpg

Is’nt this cat beautiful? She is one of the young stray cats living in park looking for a home. This cat is very social. She loves to be pet and is not shy of people like the many other stray cats. I hope I can find a good home for her. In order to create this image I used an 85mm portrait lens at f2.8. You see only her face in focus.

Enjoy this image and treat your pets with love and care. Happy photographing!

Homeless

photoblog-day-475.jpg

I photographed this young homeless cat on my exercise walk. In the beginning she was camera shy but after a while she let me photograph her and she even posed for me. I wish I would be able to find a good home for her. Camera setting: 50mm prime lens, f2.8, 1/50sec., ISO 400 hand held.

Happy photographing!

Being relaxed

photoblog-day-380.jpg

Our cat was sleeping on a towel on my bed. I had window light from the left so I decided to use my 500mm prime lens to get this shot. Camera setting: f 8, 2.5sec., ISO 100 tripod mounted.

Enjoy and have a relaxed day!

I trust my nose

photoblog-day-351.jpg

When we shot portraits we always make sure that we focus on the eyes because usually eyes make or break a portrait. In this image I focused on the nose implying the message that for a dog the nose is more important than the eyes. Camera setting: f4, 1/800sec., ISO 100.

Enjoy!

Thank you all for giving our second photographic exercise blog such a good start. Take a look at www.passionforphotos.com and start doing the exercises. you will get a lot out of them.

Curiosity ….

photoblog-day-331.jpg

I started photographing cats for a special project. I was almost done photographing the cats in my neighborhood when I saw this one peaking through the window. I wonder what was so interesting inside? Camera setting: 75mm focal length, f5.0, 1/400sec., ISO 400.

Enjoy and have a great photographic day!

On being relaxed

photoblog-day-257.jpg

The days before Christmas are usually pretty stressful, at least for me. While I was cleaning the house yesterday I saw our big cat laying relaxed on our bed. I decided to grab the camera and take a few shots. I used a 200mm prime lens and a tripod since the curtains were partially closed and I did not want to use a flash. The cat just opened the left eye a little bit and let me shoot. She was relaxed. Somehow this image spoke to me: It is important to concentrate on important things and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Best Friends

photoblog-day-225a.jpg

Photographing pets is a lot of fun. You need a little bit of knowledge and patience combined with a good portion of luck to get the image you want. I was lucky with these two dogs. They were well behaved and a lot of fun. Camera setting: F 5.6, 1/250sec., ISO 125, strobe light.

Enjoy!

It was a lot of fun to photograph these young cats. I used  an 85mm portrait lens at f2.8 to blur the background as much as possible.

My best friend

photoblog-day-161.jpg

Many times I asked myself “How to show personality?” What is the essence of a human being and how can you photograph it? The famous portrait photographer Richard Avedon photographed people on a white background, eliminating their context and reducing the subject to what he thought was important. There is certainly a lot that can distract us; however I believe an important aspect of portrait photography is relational. We a re a great deal defined through our relationships. In this image I tried to show the relationship between the teenager and her cat. The closed eyes and hugging hand reveal intimacy. The cat looks the girl straight into the eyes showing that the relationship is mutual.  The body of the girl, the arm and cat show a circular structure that your eye automatically wander around the image reminding me of a ring, the symbol of commitment and trust.

Happy photographing!

Bolsky

photoblog-day-122.jpg

Bolsky is our latest edition to the family. She was sitting on the sofa and I had to photograph her. In order to get the room out of focus I used a 85mm portrait lens at f2.0. I focused on her eyes and I got this image.

Enjoy!
