Shavings and bolt

I like old things and shiny things.

shavings-bolt-4915.jpg

Liking shiny things is an inside joke with my family. However here I have both, the shiny randomness of the shavings contrasted with the old rigid texture of the bolt. I also like the direction of the light, from the left. Accentuating the threads on the bolt and providing contrast within the shavings.

W.R. Ranch

photoblog-day-831.jpg

I got permission to share this collage of images that I photographed commercially. My goal was to create a composition that reflects the relationship of the couple to each other and to their animals and property which is very loving and caring.

Enjoy and keep on creating great images!

The Spinner

While Friedhelm continued to photograph around the old house I took a look at some of the machinery near by.

the-spinner-4161.jpg

This is called a ’spinner’. It’s used to allow someone to steer a vehicle using only one hand, necessary in farming, illegal in most cases on the street. The mottled background is the remnants of an old foam rubber seat which adds some wonderful texture.

Links and Post

Another photograph from Railtown 1897 State Park

links-and-post-2681.jpg

I liked the contrast between the very busy set of links and the static post on which they were hanging. The post is somewhat out of focus but still draws your attention away from the busy links. I guess our eyes just need a rest.

Gears

I took the opportunity to tour the old stamp mill in Bodie.

gears-1050.jpg

These gears sitting on a workbench caught my eye.  They were some of the smaller pieces of equipment.

The stamp mill pulverizes the ore (rocks) into a fine dust that the gold is then extracted from. The noise is extremely loud and the process very dangerous, both from the equipment and the chemicals used.

This was definitely a tripod shot at 1/15th of a second f5.6.

Water Wheel

The water wheel was essential to hydraulic mining.

water-wheel-0073.jpg

Water wheels were used to power all the mining machinery during the gold rush and beyond. I’m not sure what this one powered but is was fairly small (about 6 feet tall) and looks like it was built for speed more than power.

I added the sepia tone and vignette to give it that old time feel.

Creative Hands

photoblog-day-591.jpg

I was privileged this morning to photograph at a local senior center. A local artist invited me to photograph while the attendees were creating beautiful artwork. This is one of the images that I created using a 85mm portrait lens at f 2.8. I had to crank up the ISO to 800 to get 1 1/125sec. exposure time.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

The Musician at Sans Souci

photoblog-day-540.jpg

I photographed this musician in front of the castle Sans Souci in Potsdam, Germany which is located close to Berlin. Sans Souci is very pretty and you are welcomed by this “Baroque” musician. I thought I put this image into a different frame.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Begging

photoblog-day-539.jpg

Beggars somehow fascinate me. They have the courage to look you right in your face asking for money and they have to deal with lots of rejection. Wherever I see them, I try to photograph them. This Eastern European woman was sitting on a frozen ground at a market place in northern Germany.

Happy Friday!

The Dancer, the Drummer and the Dollars

photoblog-day-518.jpgMarket street is full of street musicians. It looks like that they are have their place where you can find them on a regular basis. They have become part of the city and the good-one attract a crowd like these two. They had a great show and I took time to photograph them.Enjoy and as always: Happy Photographing!
