Precision

photoblog-day-507.jpg

I photographed this image at the Mariposa historical museum. This is part of the equipment that was used during the California Gold Rush. As they say: “Money makes the world go round” and gold is money.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

The Floor

While visiting my home town I went by the abandoned railyard a few blocks from my parents house.

I came across an old caboose that had apparently been in an accident. The floor on the back had been crumpled up and  I liked the ‘other worldly’ look when I did this close-up. Because of the location I had to do it handheld and at 1/10sec, thank goodness for image stabalization.

Photographing on a Farm 02

photoblog-day-462.jpg

This is a typical bean field. The soil gets properly prepared and irrigated and according to Marc Marchini, the sales manager at Joe Marchini Farms (  www.jmarchinifarms.com/), one can grow almost anything here in the Central California Valley.

Enjoy and have a great day!

Photographing on a Farm 01

photoblog-day-461.jpg

Several times I heard the following sentence: “We live in the middle of nowhere two hours away from everything!” “Nowhere” is defined as the San Joaquin Valley in Central California “everything” usually means the California coast, Yosemite or San Francisco. I think “nowhere” is also an incredibly valley with farms that produce vast crops of a variety of species, wonderful people and spectacular sunrises. This week I like to share five image that I photographed on a farm. I like to thank Marc Marchini from Joe Marchini farms for the opportunity to photograph and share these images. If you would like to know more about farming and California farm products visit the company’s website:  www.jmarchinifarms.com/

Farmwork and Photography have in common that work stars early. I drove to the farm before 6:00 AM to photograph the sunrise over the foothills and discovered that the water truck has already watered the dirt road to keep the dust down. This gave me the opportunity for the above image.  Camera setting: 36mm focal length, f8, 1/200 sec., ISO 400, hand held. I brought a seven foot ladder which I climbed to get this shot.  Enjoy!

Just Plain Old

compressor-valve.jpg

I think the title just about says it. This is the side of a well weathered old compressor and valve that’s been sitting outside for several years. I’ve looked at it for as many years and finally decided it might make an interesting photograph.

The Eye of a Cleaner

photoblog-day-276.jpg

While I was photographing at DC Cleaners in Chowchilla, CA I tried to make myself invisible. I was hiding in between racks when one of the workers walked towards me with clean garment in her hands. I photographed her while she was hanging them up. Camera setting: 85mm lens, f2.8, 1/50sec., ISO 400.

Enjoy and next time you pick up your cleaned stuff thank the cleaners for their hard work!

Cloth hangers

“Craftsmanship is the quality that comes from creating with passion, care, and attention to detail. It is a quality that is honed, refined, and practiced over the course of a career.” Richard Glover

photoblog-day-275.jpg

Cleaners pay very close attention to detail. It is the nature of their business to take spots out and not by accident photographers talk about cleaning up images in post production. Close attention to detail is payed during the composition phase of an image as well. I photographed this stack of cloth hangers several times using different f stops. I decided finally to use the image with the lowest depths of field because I wanted to direct the eyes to the top of the image. In addition I wanted to create some dramatic effect in the picture. Camera setting: 50mm lens, f1.8, 0.4sec., ISO 100, tripod mounted.

Enjoy!

Going to the Cleaners

photoblog-day-274.jpg

David and his employees gave me permission to photograph at their business, DC Cleaners in Chowchilla, CA. Photographing at a business is a great opportunity to photograph something new. The first thing I noticed that everything is full of colors. There are the different colors of the clothing, the tags, cleaning supply, yarn etc. I started out photographing the tray of tags. It was pretty dark and I used a tripod to shoot this image.

Enjoy!
