Hidden Beauty

photoblog-day-883.jpg

I discovered these weeds on my evening walk. The light was great and I loved the blue background formed by Rahilly Creek. A friend of mine once said that “photography forces you to look deeper.” I believe that this is true. It certainly males you look for interesting subjects and intriguing backgrounds.

Enjoy and keep on looking for great images!

Dogwood

The Dogwoods are in full bloom up in Yosemite.

When I first got there I trudged through some underbrush (read blackberry bushes) trying to find a great angle and background. Those dogwoods were a major disappointment. It turns out some of the best are right near the roads. If you go up be sure and bring some mosquito repellant, they’re in full bloom as well.

Coral Aloe

photoblog-day-877.jpg

I photographed this South African plant at the UC Botanical garden in Berkeley, CA. I used my 24-105mm lens at f4 To draw attention to the plant. The background needed to be blurred just enough to see the other blooming plants which create a beautiful contrast to the red colors of the Coral Aloe.

Mother Nature Wins

We’ve all seen it, man made objects being reclaimed by mother nature.

This rusting hulk was providing the perfect spot for these plants to grow. A bit of soil, morning sun, and enough retained rain water for a comfy home. The lechin is doing okay as well.

Three Poppies

The California Poppies are in full bloom right now.

three-poppies-4926.jpg

When I took this photograph I purposely included the wheel at the bottom as a contrasting focal point. Otherwise I would have had a nice uninteresting photo of three poppies. To test my theory simply block off the lower portion of the photograph with your hand or a piece of paper and note the difference.

The Azaleas are blooming in my front yard. I went out early this morning to photograph them. I developped two different image out of the camera raw file which I combined into one in Photoshop. I wanted the red tones to be soft without loosing detail in other parts of the image.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

The Poppies Were Closed

Hite Cove on the South Merced River is at it’s best right now.

The day was overcast so the poppies were a little shy. They did however provide a great backdrop to the other wildflowers. If you can make the time I suggest you get on up there as soon as possible. The show is great but won’t last long.

Evening Shadows

The theme for April’s meeting of the Chowchilla Photo Club is ’shadows’

evening-shadows-4571.jpg

I saw this while walking home from work. What first caught my eye were the shadows against the lined garage door. The soft light of the sunset muted the sharpness of the shadows but brought out the wonderful hue of the bark and fonts.  The frame is cut in two by the trunk, the busy upper left is contrasted by the quieter lower right.

Mushrooms on a Stump

photoblog-day-848.jpg

I discovered these mushrooms on my daily walk. I created a different frame giving the viewer the feeling of looking through a microscope.

Enjoy and have a great week-end.

A Promise of Yum

The peach tree in my back yard is blooming.

promise-of-yum-4280.jpg

Last year I had some great peaches, this will be the trees 3rd year and I even pruned it this year. Looking for a bountiful harvest.

If you look closely at the top of the bloom you can see a little morning dew.  Hope you have a bountiful year.
