Best Friends

photoblog-day-887.jpg

I had the opportunity to photograph this lady and her dog. I just love the composition in this image. Her eyes are in the upper right and my eyes move automatically in that direction. Using a wide open lens blurred the background (lawn) nicely.

Enjoy and keep on photographing.

Bored Boy

photoblog-day-861.jpg

This is one of my older images. I photographed this boy in front of a castle in Potsdam, Germany. While the parents were exited about seeing all the wonderful castles, Alex was totally bored. It was the time before tablets and smart phones. By the way, Alex is my son!

Enjoy and keep on creating beautiful memories!

Fun at the Beach

photoblog-day-857.jpg

While I was walking along the beach looking for high waves I met a group of young people. They asked me to photograph them and i asked them to jump into the air. They were more than happy to do it for me and I snapped a few shots.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

W.R. Ranch

photoblog-day-831.jpg

I got permission to share this collage of images that I photographed commercially. My goal was to create a composition that reflects the relationship of the couple to each other and to their animals and property which is very loving and caring.

Enjoy and keep on creating great images!

Buy a Zebra

If you like lines in your photos like I do the answer is to buy a Zebra.

Or at least visit them at the zoo.

The problem with animals is they move. The other problem is they don’t. I had to be very patient with this zebra as it walked around finally getting the right angle and a bonus of the lined shadows as a background.

Ready, Mr. Deville

Went to Fresno’s Chaffee Zoo last weekend.  Took a few animal portraits.

I think this little fellow likes to have his picture taken. When I first walked up he was in the water. He got out and walked along this log just a few feet away from me. Then he stopped and raised one leg, interesting action.  He has a wonderful crown but didn’t seem to want to show it when I was ready to shoot. Oh well.

Sleeping

photoblog-day-775.jpg

I was photographing in Yerba Buena Park in San Francisco. Several people were sleeping in the warm December afternoon sun. The light was actually not that great fro photography but when I saw the people walking by this sleeping gentleman I had to take the shot. I love the dynamic of this image. The resting guy in focus versus the walking people with the dog. The red hat just draws your eyes to the lower right side of the image.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Stanford University Senior Portrait - Annemarie

photoblog-day-762.jpg

On Saturday I had the opportunity to photograph our daughter Annemarie. She is a senior at Stanford University. I don’t have to mention that we are very proud of her and I am looking forward to her graduation.

The campus provides great opportunities for photography and I truly enjoyed this photo shooting! Have fun with your photography!

Homeless in Merced

photoblog-day-747.jpg

What do you see when you look into the eyes of this homeless woman. I see a lot of strength, determination, maybe some disappointments. She allowed me to photograph her and I used a 135mm prime lens at f2.8 to get this shot. In order to show her character I converted this image to a sepia tone.

By the way, she has a name and a story which is interesting to listen to. Have a great photographic week!

Robert W.

I attended the annual Veterans Day Memorial Service in Chowchilla yesterday.

robert-11-11-11-2201.jpg

I focused on Robert, a friend of mine, member of the photo club and most importantly a veteran. He, members of the VFW and American Legion were the color guard at the memorial. No matter your politics you must give all members of the armed services their due. They go and have gone into harms way so we have the most imperfect and yet perfect form of government.
