Anne - Fall Portrait 05

photoblog-day-740.jpg

I asked Anne to throw the leaves up into the air. She did it faster that I expected. I still was lucky to get this shot.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Anne - Fall Portrait 04

photoblog-day-739.jpg

Anne grabbed a bunch of leaves and I asked her to hold them while I was photographing. It turned out to be a very nice image.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Anne - Fall Portait 02

photoblog-day-738.jpg

Anne posed for me in front of some gorgeous vines. The red colors also created a beautiful contrast to her blue skirt and her blue eyes.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Anne - Fall Portrait 01

photoblog-day-737.jpg

The absolutely stunning Fall colors open up the opportunities for great portrait shots. I photographed Anne at different locations using mostly natural light and sometimes a fill-in flash. I photographed during the late afternoon and I adjusted the ISO setting on my camera since it got darker by the minute.

Enjoy the first image I like to share and keep on photographing!

Young Gunner

I met this young man at the Civil War Revisited

young-gunner-1826.jpg

He struck this pose without being asked and was quite informative.  It reminded me of what you see in photos from the era. He’s probably about the right age for those that fought in the war, as with most wars.

I changed this to sepia tone and added some grain to give it more of an older feel. I really hated to do this because the original was so sharp. Oh well…..

Anne & Stefan

photoblog-day-704.jpg

I photographed this young couple in downtown San Francisco. I used a 17mm wide angle lens on a full frame sensor camera knowing that there will be some distortion.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Portrait of a Homeless Gentleman

photoblog-day-697.jpg

Homeless people have a story to tell. I often have the feeling that they want to talk and they usually allow me to photograph them. By asking for permission I show them respect and you get very far with people when you treat them with respect. This gentleman was a miner in Nevada City, CA. for the last 35 years he lived on the street.

Enjoy the photograph and have a great start this week.

Friedhelm

Friedhelm and I were on a photo shoot when I took this candid shot of him.

I decided to post this one instead of the one where he’s sticking his tongue out at me. Now you can put a face behind all those wonderful photographs he posts.

Pioneer

photoblog-day-633.jpg

I love to go to historical re-enactments and exhibitions. History determines who we are and where we are going to a certain degree. I had just a few seconds to photograph this gentleman. The interaction between his eye and his hands caught my attention. Faces and hands are the most important part of any portrait since they also determine who we are.

Enjoy and happy week-end!

The Drummer

photoblog-day-631.jpg

I photographed the drummer of “Curtis and Luckey” from the side. In post processing I converted the image to a sketch using the “Topaz” plug-in. Then I bought back some of the colors. Drummers always fascinate me. I like the interaction between face and hands. Sometimes their faces are very intense, sometimes they are relaxed.

Also, this is a good example of using motion blur creatively. The 1/60 second exposure time was not fast enough to completely freeze the motion in the drum sticks.

Enjoy and happy photographing.
