A Setting Sun

Took a quick trip to Lake Yosemite last weekend.

The shore was muddy, the grass high and wet but the sunset came through. I thought the lake water would be way down and I could get some photos of the circular bridge and the shoreline. I figured there wouldn’t be much of an opportunity to get a good sunset and reflection. Turned out I was wrong.

Oasis

photoblog-day-519.jpg

In the midst of all the huzzle and buzzle on Market Street is a small “oasis” of quietness in form of small water ponds and surrounding plants. A surrounding sky scraper is reflected in the water.

Enjoy!

Cable Car - San Francisco

photoblog-day-509.jpg

The idea for this image I got from an image that I saw at the arts market at the Embarcadero in San Francisco. It just so happened that the morning rain had stopped and the streets were dry exept for this water puddle. I used my 17-40mm lens holding it very close to the water to get the reflection and the Cable Car just right.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Water and Light

photoblog-day-486.jpg

I observed the large drops of this water fountains. In order to photograph them I had to “freeze” the action using a fast shutter speed and manually estimate the distance in between water drops and camera. It took several shots but the reward was great.

Have a great week and enjoy your photography!

Tree Reflection

photoblog-day-484.jpg

There is a small pond right in front of the Ahwahnee hotel in Yosemite Valley. I always liked the trees around the pond but I seldom grabbed an image because there are always parked cars in the background. The water was pretty murky but I was intrigued by the reflection of the trees.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Vietnam Memorial Wall in Chowchilla, CA

photoblog-day-427.jpg

I photographed this former Vietnam veteran pilot at the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Chowchilla, CA. This wall moves from town to town. You can get for information about it at the following link: http://www.themovingwall.org/.

The wall brought back many memories and the small Chowchilla park was transformed into a place of tears, remembrance and piety. People shared their stories, left flowers and cried. I believe a lot of healing took place during the few days the wall was in Chowchilla.

Have a peaceful Tuesday!

Portrait of an Angel

When I first saw this statue it was early in the day and I walked right past it.

As it neared time for the mission to close I was walking toward the gift shop and this time the angel caught my eye. Photography means writing with light, if you see something that might be interesting and the photograph comes out ho-hum, give it another try, at a different time, different angle or with a little help from a flash or reflector. By the way a foam core board makes an excellent reflector and costs about $2.

Peace - Merced Wildlife Refuge

photoblog-day-367.jpg

I had to go out last night to the Merced Game Refuge because after the last storm the clouds were just great. This was maybe the last Spring storm and when a high pressure system is in place it is there to stay for a while and clouds are scarce. The image portraits a peaceful mood and is a powerful reminder how precious peace is, especially when we read almost everyday about killings and war in the media.

Have a peaceful day!

Reflection

photoblog-day-262.jpg

We were walking around Jack London Square when this window front caught my attention. It was almost dark and a tripod was needed to take this shot. Camera setting: f4, 1/20sec., ISO 100.
