Product photography has it’s own challenges. The image has to entice the viewer to buy the product. The message is:”I want to have it!”

Enjoy and eat some fresh fruit and don’t forget to photograph!

Cloth Hangers in a Bag

photoblog-day-705.jpg

My children were packing up to go back to college. I discovered this bag full of cloth hangers and decided to photograph it. The more I photograph the more I believe that photography is about seeing great subjects in ordinary situations.

Enjoy and open your eyes and photograph!

Crayons

photoblog-day-640.jpg

Sometimes little objects can become great subjects in a composition. I had a little bit of time to “play” with these crayons. I arranged and photographed them from different angles. My background was a hedge which I threw out of focus by opening the lens up. This is a very simple composition but it works for me. I like the photograph.

Enjoy and keep on thinking about images and compositions!

Glass Globe

I’ve had this glass globe for a while now….what do I do with it?

glass-globe-7361.jpg

Since the weather is rather cold and the days short I decided to bring out my light box.  Using a couple of sheets of black poster board, I cut a small hole in the bottom of one and placed the globe on top. The prism/rainbow effect was unexpected and only showed up in a couple of the shots. I like that little bit of color in what would otherwise be a black and white photograph. Maybe next time some stars…….does anyone have a glass moon? F20 for depth of field for 5 seconds.

Nuts

photoblog-day-516.jpg

Cold or rainy winter weather opens the possibility to find interesting subjects inside your house or apartment. The nuts on the table caught my attention and I photographed them using just window light.

Enjoy and happy photographing

Croquet and Fall

While in Mariposa I came across these croquet balls outside at an antique store.

Once again the various lines and textures caught my eye. The obvious focus is the croquet balls in the lower left, but as your eye wanders you can see a lot more going on from the mallet heads to the fall leaves topping the entire photograph.

Over the Hill

photoblog-day-481.jpg

I observed these flowers in my front yard for quite some time. Yesterday I finally decided to photograph them. They are definitely “over the hill” and still they are beautiful.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

The Bottle

photoblog-day-480.jpg

I was photographing a water polo game when I discovered this bottle at the edge of the pool. I had to photograph it. The background is a mixture of warm and cold light and the direction of the bottle combined with the rim of the pool creates an interesting dynamic in this composition. Camera setting: 200mm focal length, f4, 1/500 sec., ISO 800, hand held.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Abundance

photoblog-day-473.jpg

This image reminds me of the incredible richness of California. The fresh fruit and vegetables we get here at the local farmer’s market is just unbeatable.

Enjoy and be thankful for your local farmer!

Leaf on a Brick Wall

While fall is late this year it has to start somewhere.

This was not a set up shot. This leaf landed perfectly for this shot, and I liked this angle best.
