Wind Energy

photoblog-day-542.jpg

I photographed these two windmills in northern Germany right at sunset. The old windmill and the new turbine in the background create an interesting contrast. In addition the warm sunlight and the cold snow create another nice contrast.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

A Setting Sun

Took a quick trip to Lake Yosemite last weekend.

The shore was muddy, the grass high and wet but the sunset came through. I thought the lake water would be way down and I could get some photos of the circular bridge and the shoreline. I figured there wouldn’t be much of an opportunity to get a good sunset and reflection. Turned out I was wrong.

Sunset, Merced Game Refuge

photoblog-day-502.jpg

Sunsets at the Merced Game Refuge are often spectacular. When David, my wife and I went there we were admiring the rich color contrast. There are the dark brown to black color tones in the front and the light yellow in the sun and in between the blue and gray tones of the water and clouds. In addition I like the implied lines in the clouds. They all serve as leading lines towards the sun.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

Tufa at Sunset

After Bodie we ate dinner and then went to catch the sunset a Mono Lake.

I wasn’t pleased with most of my shots but thought this one turned out pretty good. I cropped it and did some minor adjustments in Lightroom 3. By the way if you’re a photographer, Lightroom is a very powerful tool specifically designed for photographs. I used a longer exposure and high f-stop to get as much depth as possible and calm the water a little.

The storm

As I mentioned in previous posts the Colorado Rockies create some interesting skies.

This photograph was taken looking east over high desert from Colorado Springs.  While the clouds impart a feeling of impending thunder, lightning and heavy rain we actually had very little to show, though I’m sure other areas felt the effects. I truly felt lucky to be able to witness this.

This photograph is one of my favorites from my too short vacation. While it breaks the rule of having the focal point centered I think it works here.  I purposely cropped the photograph to include the silhouette of the tree in the lower right to give it some depth.

Sunset

If you like dramatic landscapes and sunsets the Rocky Mountains in August is a good place to start.

This was one of those times when you don’t know which photograph to post. I was constantly moving and turning my camera and tripod in different directions trying to get the full effect of this magical evening.  Hope you enjoy.
