Winter Wonder Land

photoblog-day-843.jpg

When we arrived at Yosemite Valley last Sunday the streets were still clear and there were no chains required. Three hours later it was a different story. A new storm front moved. In between I was able to photograph a winter wonder land.

Enjoy and keep on photographing!

Reflection

Fern Spring is one of my favorite places in Yosemite Valley. Every time I stopp there I discover something different. The reflection caught my attention and I had to take several shots.

Late Winter Storm

photoblog-day-839.jpg

When we saw the weather report we decided to go up to Yosemite yesterday. In Mariposa, CA about half way we already were welcomed with a nice hail storm but the streets were still drive-able so we continued towards Yosemite. There was rain, hail and snow depending on the elevation. In Yosemite Valley we experienced a brief moment where the sun peaked through which created the opportunity for some great images. Camera setting: 17mm focal length, f11 (full frame sensor), 1/160sec., ISO 100.

Water and Rocks

photoblog-day-807.jpg

There is naturally a great contrast between water and rocks. Water flows, there is movement and energy. Rocks stand still, change only over thousands of years. They are a symbol of stability. I tried to express this contrast in this image. I edited it two layers, one layer for the rocks and one for the water. Then I combined the two layers using a mask and “painting” the water layer into the rock layer.

Enjoy and have a great photographic week-end!

Fern Spring

photoblog-day-804.jpg

Fern Spring is a favorite spot to photograph in Yosemite Valley. I was lucky that I had the place for myself and I tried all kinds of different ways to photograph the place. Camera setting: 105mm focal length (slightly cropped), F18, 4 sec., ISO 100.

The Heart of El Capitan

photoblog-day-803.jpg

El Capitan in Yosemite National Park is simply impressive. More impressive to me is the shape of a heart on the lower right side of the gigantic monolith.

I photographed this lonesome tree and after I took a quick look at the image in my camera I looked up again and saw this gentleman walking towards the tree. A second later I snapped this image. I believe there is a deep connection between humans and mother nature and even if I cannot explain it I can express it in my images.

Enjoy and have a great week.

Lonely

On top of this ridge I discovered this lonely tree. I converted the image to black and white using NIK Silver Efix pro.

Tenaya Lake at Sunset

photoblog-day-791.jpg

One of the best times to photograph is around sunsets and this is especially true in Yosemite National Park. I shot this image of Tenaya Lake while there were deep shadows on the trees around the lake and the surrounding mountain tops were still beautifully illuminated by the sunlight.

Ice, Rocks and Water

photoblog-day-789.jpg

Due to the drought the creeks in Tuolumne meadows were low and partially frozen. I liked the cold-warm contrast of the ice and the rocks in the creek bed.

Enjoy and happy photographing!
