Flamingo

Another character posing at the zoo.

flamingo-3249.jpg

When I first arrived at the zoo all the flamingos were huddled in the back among some bushes, a distance sea of muted color.

Second time around it was warm enough that the huddle was broken and I was able to get this photograph.

Life of Riley

I’m sure living at the zoo isn’t the greatest life.

When I took this photograph this kangaroo didn’t seem to mind. I walked around quite a bit and I don’t think this kangaroo moved a single inch or muscle.

Sun Worshipper

What does a seal do in the dead of winter.

sun-worshipper-3020.jpg

Sun themselves on the unseasonably warm February day. This fellow is going to have a new much larger home this summer. Maybe he was dreaming about that.

Another Show-off

Many of the animals at the zoo where somewhat shy, not this one.

Just like people some animals like all the attention and some don’t. I think most of the ones in the zoo just tolerated people because they had to.

Buy a Zebra

If you like lines in your photos like I do the answer is to buy a Zebra.

Or at least visit them at the zoo.

The problem with animals is they move. The other problem is they don’t. I had to be very patient with this zebra as it walked around finally getting the right angle and a bonus of the lined shadows as a background.

Ready, Mr. Deville

Went to Fresno’s Chaffee Zoo last weekend.  Took a few animal portraits.

I think this little fellow likes to have his picture taken. When I first walked up he was in the water. He got out and walked along this log just a few feet away from me. Then he stopped and raised one leg, interesting action.  He has a wonderful crown but didn’t seem to want to show it when I was ready to shoot. Oh well.

Eye of the Beholder

photoblog-day-695.jpg

I loved the eyes of this crocodile. I used the dark shirt of the trainer as a backdrop and added some of the teeth as contrast to the beautiful eye.

Enjoy and happy photographing!

What’s for desert?

Photographed at the San Francisco Zoo.

Happy Shooting

Don’t mess with me

photoblog-day-24.jpg

Photographing animals can be very tricky. They sometimes don’t behave the way you want them to. This is not all bad. You just have to wait and capture the right moment. I took a few picture of this beautiful bird that were pretty boring. Then I saw the animal coming towards me and that was my chance. I got this wonderful expression that made my day.

Happy shooting!

The Zoo - a wealth of inspiration

zoo-01.jpg

Feeling burnt out? Sometimes we need to go to places where we recharge our mental batteries. Try the local zoo. Even if the local zoo is very small you are surrounded by astonishing creatures. Being wowed by what you see helps you to wow others with your images.

Happy wowing!
